Hi Boston,
Well, I was diagnosed with Pancolitis(a severe form of colitis) on July 27th. I have been trying to learn as much as I can about this disease. First of all, stress plays a huge part in it. It doesn't cause it , but it can make it worse. It is a viscious circle though because knowing you have the disease is stressful in itself. When I was diagnosed, I had my worst flare up and it was directly due to the stress of the diagnoses. Secondly, don't listen to people who say what you eat doesn't matter. That's absolutely ridiculous and irresponsisble..alcohol is not good, fatty greasy foods are terrible. Boston, think of it this way, what would you eat that would not make you want to go to the bathroom.(good examples...white rice, plain white chicken breast, dry clumpy regular oatmeal(yuck but it works), dry toast, melba toast, occasional red meat but supposedly not good. Make a food journal, try different foods and see what works for you. However tacos is asking for trouble...common sense right...lol. Popcorn is horrible along with corn. When you eat apples, peel them as the skins are an insoluble fibre(hard for colon to break down). The inside is a soluble fibre, which is good for your colon. Basically, you want to eat foods that have soluble fibre. Also, I find that boneless, skinless sardines are phenomenal as fish oil which is rich in omega 3 is great and soothes my stomach. Also, peppermint tea is good. Im on facebook if you would like to add me. I'm determined to kick this disease in the ass so to speak. My name on facebook is Alan Robert and I'm located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Also, my email is [email protected]. I am making as many friends as possible who have this disease and want to become an expert and hopefully help myself as well as others with this. Bottom line, there are many people who have this and have had it under control for many years. Don't let this kill your dreams. Be responsible and have faith. It's not easy, but it certainly is not impossible to live a great life. I hope I've helped you out. I'm 33, and never thought I would be in this room, but am happy that there are people who understand. You are quickly going to change for the better. Having this makes you stronger and be a better person and it opens your eyes to the important things in life. Keep this in mind, a great former president of yours had this..his name was JFK. I hope to hear from you!
