Hello,

I just started imuran a week ago and have a fever now. They ran labs today but I don't get to talk to my doc til the morning. My wbc and neutrophils are elevated and my lymphocytes are low. Does this mean than I will have to discontinue the imuran? I've also been on prednisone for awhile.

I was originally dxd with crohn's colitis several years ago. My scope last month shows uc throughout the colon. My symptoms are different than before. I don't see any bleeding but have d 5-10x per day with rectal cramping/spasms. Does anything help with that?

How much immodium can one safely take to help keep the frequency down? Does it help with uc?

Definately get in contact with your doctor. Running a fever is not normal. It's your body's way of fighting somthing off. It could be that you got a bug or something. Imuran can lower your immune system (though a week seems a bit too early for this) but the pred can also lower your immune system.

What other meds are you on at this time? If you are cramping, you can ask your doc for an anti-spasmodic. I take Bentyl to help with my cramping and it works fairly well.

Immodium can be used sparingly but one with Uc should not take high doses or take it for long periods of time. It can increase the risk of toxic megacolon (this is where your colon stops working and can possibly rupture). Ask your doc about using this as well.

From what I was told when I started Azathioprine (I think thats the drug in Imuran) that I could get fever and they tested my blood every week in the beginning then every second week till my dose was stabilised to 200mg a day. Now they do once in 3 months. Do get in touch with the doctor but I don't think there is any reason to worry.

Azathioprine IS immunosuppresant so it WILL compromise your immune system to a certain extent.

Thanks for your replies. I just got home after my first hospitalization for ibd. Seems I had c-diff on top of my colitis flare. I feel like it's totally wiped me out.
