How do i get rid of the thrush ???
I am using an over the counter cream on my tongue .. daktarin .... but its not helping.
Im on 40mg pred starting to reduce tomorrow to 30 ..... im hoping this will help as I know the pred causes thrush.
Any ideas anyone ???

Oh no, you poor thing!
You need nystatin mouth wash, your GP will be able to prescribe it.
Isn't daktarin for athletes foot?

I had oral thrush the last time I was on pred. Get a Rx for Nystatin, take tons of probiotics and scrape your tongue. Good luck!

I don't think the cream is meant to be ingested, you'll give yourself a squiffy tummy if you're not careful!

Hi. This happened to my son every time that he went on prednisone. I don't believe that just lowering the pred will get rid of it since the fungas has already taken hold. You need a prescript
ion of Nystatin. Make sure you swish it around in your mouth as long as possible, gargle (to get a little up the back of your throat) and then swallow. It is helpful, during the same period to be swishing yogurt around in you mouth every now and then...this adds in a lot of good bacteria to your mouth which inhibits the yeast (fungas). Some people, including my son, needed Fluconazole. He had yeast all down his throat. Fluconazole is a pill that you take a couple of times a day and works very quickly...it is expensive however. The docs almost always start you out with Nystatin and for most it works very well and quickly. Good luck. You probably only need to talk to your doc on the phone to get a presciption since this is such a common thing to have occur.

I had thrush twice..ugh..horrible! I used Nystatin too and it worked well but took quite awhile to get rid of the thrush. I thought it was from the Flagyl not prednisone..hmmm...odd because both times I got thrush, I was taking Flagyl. I am on prednisone quite a bit and never got thrush while only on the prednisone.

Thanks all
I managed to get rid of it as much as I could with the daktarin ... its the oral version of the foot cream lol !!!! Its for the mouth ... lol !!!
I was on holiday last week in spain and it got better, but my mouth still feels like its dry.
I can cope with a bit of thrush though now that my bowels have decided to ease off !!! I was able to sit on the beach and enjoy swimming it was fantastic!!!!

Glad you're feeling better, I had visions of you putting athlete's foot cream on your tongue!
All I could think was surely it doesn't taste very nice! What a plonk I am!!

A good way to avoid oral thrush is to take a good probiotic daily and indefinitely (flaring or not), this is beneficial for any age too (even babies).
