Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I was diagnosed with Pancolitis in July. I was put on Prednisone at 40 mg to start. I was doing good and was weaning off and was down to 25 mg when I was put on Pentasa as a maintenance drug. Within a couple of days, all hell broke "loose". I called my specialist and he told me to increase the prednisone back to 40 mg and increase the Pentasa to 9 pills a day. For almost a month I had straight Diahrrea. Finally on Wednesday of this week, I had enough of Pentasa and was thinking it was the culprit. I'm new to U.C. so I thought maybe the diahrrea was part of the deal. Anyways, he told me to stop the Pentasa until Friday(yesterday) and see what happens. Sure enough the very next day, I had solidly formed bowel movements in the morning and was fine for the rest of the day. Yesterday, same thing. Then yesterday I saw my specialist and he prescribed me some Salofalk. I was surprised because I thought it was very similar to Pentasa(both are mesalmine). I told him my concern and he said I should be fine. Today I took my first two pills of Salofalk and sure enough, the D returned with a vengeance(it was the worst D i've ever had). Has this ever happened to anyone? Any suggestions? I'm quickly losing faith in my specialist.
