I wonder how many people are in remission and never post here

My GI did mention to me once that the majority of his patients are in remission and that I was in the unlucky few that didn't do as well. I don't know the percentages though. Good news from me though is that I have been in remission now for at least 8 months. This is the longest I have been able to remain in remission! :) I do, however, have IBS as well and I am still having issues with that. But I can tell you what a relief it is to not see all that blood in the toilet bowl for a change!

Yes, I've been in remission for about 4 years now; and I've seen many of those folks come and go who have achieved remission and don't post much anymore...but we like to know they are out living life! It encouraging for all of us!

From reading many of these post during the last week it has shown me how frustrating a disease it is to get under control.And  what works for one person[diet,meditation,meds etc] might not work for you.My story starts in the spring of 1985,i was 26 years old,my ex-wife and i had just split up[which i thought was the end of my world].I started bleeding lighly when i had a B.M,i would take ALKA-SELTZER [bad idea].I started bleeding all the time,stopped eating[was 6'5-195lbs],finally i went to my primary care.He sent me to a hospital to see a gastro M.D,he took a blood test and of course my blood count got me a 28 day stay in the hospital,they didn't know what was wrong with me til they did a scope,they started me on I.V prednisone which worked great.I left the hospital at 145 lbs[i was one sick boy].I flared again in 1986,was able to stop it on oral prednisone[no hospital].Never had a major flare til this year,23 years,i feel lucky that it was under control for such a long period.Once in a while i would have a minor flare and a few rowasas would stop the flare,i have taken 3 asacols once a day for many years.Now the disease has kicked my butt somewhat,i started last summer[08] getting some mucus,runnystools,and some normal stools.Increased the Asacol,using rowasa more frequently,then this spring it got to the point where i needed the heavy ammo to knock the flare down and away.First my M.D CHANGED ME to CORTIFOAM AND APRISO,NO DIFFERENCE.He put me on pred[40mg],helped somewhat-very little blood if any.still runny stools-urgency etc.Now on 15 mg pred and 75 mg 6mp[insurance denied me Humira-only approved for crohns].Started going to SUPPORT groups last week,to get more educated.Go back to DR next Monday,where he has said he will proably increase 6 mp and decrease the pred.Still have runny stools and a normal stool sometimes,can hold it in better than during the spring, work can be a drag.Iwork for a contractor in New York,he had diverticulitus badly so he understands somewhat what i'm going thru.Hope and Pray that you all get your U.C under control

I used to post here all the time when I was flaring hard. Once I got into remission, I didn't get on the site as much. I think most people tend to look for the comfort of this community when they're having problems (although there are the kind few who are here to offer support even when they feel great).

Perfect example - I'm currently experiencing a blip in my remission, and now I'm back on here to feel connected to others.

Ditto! I'm back in remission again after a 2 month flare. But I'll try and hang around this time.

Since my initial onset flare, which took a long time to sort out, (2 hospitalizations and a 2 year course of pred.,) I haven't had bad flares - until a year ago. That and the sudden retirement of my old GI sent me here for support. I've learned so much about what's out there now, both regular meds and complementary stuff.
But basically - yeah, I'd love to know the success stories, and those successful folks aren't hanging around these sites like we are. I read on another forum where someone wrote in and said they were on one of the 6MP meds for 10 years with no flares - !!!!! and I thought, Wow, I needed to hear that!!!!
So I believe there is success out there! Somewhere! . ....

hi, i have been one of the lucky ones who was in remission for 10 years, but i have been in an out of a flare for about a year. This board has been very helpful as a resource, and while i am in remission now again, i still read the board everyday

I am in remission. I found that fecal transplantation worked wonders for me. In fact, it probably saved my colon.

I stay on the board to tell others about fecal transplantation. I'm hoping others who have an imbalance of bacteria in their colon can also benefit from doing it. There isn't much information available about fecal transplantation, and the information that is available talks about getting the procedure done in Canada or Australia. Not very many people have that opportunity. That's why I stay on the board--to let people know how I got into remission immediately by doing fecal transplantation in my own home for the price of a syringe.

I've been in remission since about May of 2007. That' when me and my doctor found Humira which helped me achieve remission. I do get some minor blips with this stinking disease, and decided that it's seasonal and during the summer. So, that's when I'm breaking out the salads. ;) But, I do come on from time to time when I find something I feel that I'm able to give my 2 cents in helping another person with some of their issues with this disease. Other than that I just sit back and just read.

I was in remission when I joined this forum and I'm in remission now. I'm one of the long-timers I guess as I've been in remission for 7 years (last month actually). I think it's all about finding what works the best for you and having a doctor that is dedicated to helping you find it. I was 11 when first diagnosed and practically my GI's first patient ever. From August 2001 to September 2002 I experienced a mild to moderate form of Ulcerative colitis. I too took my share of meds in order to find the right combination. I have been on Asacol for 8 years and took prednisone, flagyl, zantac before finding the right balance with Asacol and Azathioprine. I took Remicade three times as well.

I have not been on here in a very long time because my son is doing great!  He started college in August, and had a blip the week before.  I guess it was nerves because it never turned in to a full blown flare. He weighs over 160 pounds compared to 133 when he was so sick.  6 MP has been the miracle drug for him. Thanks Sherry and Carol for all of your help during the past few years:)  You both helped this Mom a lot!!!

She put her granddaughter's (breastfed infant) poo in herself and it really sounds like it worked for her!

Basically, for the same reason that probiotics work. Her gut probably had an imbalance of bad bacteria...introducting her granddaughter's feces, which had a lot of the good bacteria, restored the bacterial imbalance. subdued's problems mostly seem tied to bacterial issues.
