Probiotics!! Help!!!

I have had UC for the past 3 years and I am recently in a very BAD flare up! I take Ascol 3X a day (12 pills total!) And I have been pretty much on a crackers and soup diet! I am looking into taking probiotics but when I researched it there are a MILLION!! Is there any certain kinds that anyone suggests would be best to buy! I want to buy them this week! :)

I use ultimate flora critical care. It seems to help.

Yes, there are many brands and varieties of probiotics. Looks for one's that say "enteric coated" and have numbers in the billions of organisms per pill or sachet, these seem to have the most effect.

I use VSL#3, powder, and also Ultimate Flora Critical Care. I was in a flare that started last September, started VSL in April and Ultimate Flora at the end of July - they really helped. The GI I was seeing at the ime told me I needed a probiotics with more diversity than just the lactobacillus of yogurt.
Neither of the ones I take is enteric coated.
Different ones seem to help different people. I'd look to make sure the number of bacteria per dose is 10 billion or above, but that's just my thought.

I use culturelle because I can buy it at target. I was using it before I was officially diagnosed with UC, and it always seemed to help. Now that I am off cipro, I am adding culturelle back.

One that is kept in the store fridge (which you would continue to do at home) and has at least 10 billion CFU with enough different strains, just tell the clerk you're using it for your IBD and hopefully they will be helpful in guiding you in the right direction.

My guide to you would be to make your own yogurt. You don't need to buy expensive pills to get the same effect. Invest in a yogurt maker and make it from scratch. It's well worth it!!!!

I take the Ultimate Flora Critical Care every morning and 1 drink 1 Bio-K bottle every night before bed and they definately help.  Each one has at least 50billion live bacteria which is alot compaired to other brands.

I use VSL #3 and think it has been very helpful. It is costly.
