bleeding from glucosamine?

Hi all - I just started taking glucosamine chondroitin MSM in hopes of helping my joint pain - and a week into it, I'm seeing some blood. I don't know whether the alignment of the stars has brought on some inflammation or if I should blame the glucosamine.
Has anyone had experience with this?

Yes, I've tried this supplement on many occasions and for some reason it makes me bleed as well.

My gastro, who subspecializes in IBD treatment, advised me to take only 1 tablet daily of glucosamine 500/chondroitin 400 for relief of lower extremities joint stiffness. I've been on the local chain drug tablet for about seven yrs with no apparent effect on UC & it does improve my knee function. So-- you could check into this type of supplement, which only contains g & ch. I take it at lunch with a multivitamin tablet daily. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Old Hat mentioned just taking the G and Ch - it is the MSM that makes me sick!

I buy a brand without it.

I just returned from Albany specialist and ask about the muscle and joint pains from prednisone.  He said just take Tylenol Arthritis.  That is what I use but it does not help a lot - just some.  I put heat on places that are worse when I can.  ElaineNY

Yes, I use Tylonel Arthritis too. One time I went up north to the inlaws cottage and forgot to pack some. This cottage is out in the country with the closest town is about 30 miles away. So I was hoping I could get by but nope! I was hurting so bad that it was crazy so I had my hubby drive to the nearest store and buy me some Tylonel Arthritis and within an hour I was functional again. So, at least for me, it helps immensely - for now. But if I can find a supplement to help my joints then maybe I wouldn't have to rely on Tylonel Arthritis so much. I take TA every 8 hours so about 2 doses a day but I've been taking them for a long time that sometimes I get concerned about my liver. But without it, I can't function. I also can't take other pain meds because of my severe reactions to narcotic pain meds, especially anything with codeine.

Sherry, if you have knee problems the glucosamine/chondroitin might help that, but it would not likely help elsewhere, possibly with the hips & that's about it-- based on my experience & what my internist said the professional literature has reported. Joint pain really is a lulu-- trying to figure out what makes it better or worse. Mine definitely comes under control when my UC gets to remission, except that my neck tends to stiffen with the onset of freezing weather. When outdoor temps drop below 50 degrees I start living in turtlenecks! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I think thats what caused my recent flare. its finally under control I stopped taking the glucosamine a few weeks into the bleeding. I was taking it for my costochondritis.
not sure why it would cause a flare up. but that's what I'm putting my money on. I would stop if I were you. I was advised to stop by my doc as well. good luck to ya.

I have been taking tylenol arthritis too for my joint pain. I also take glucosimine and condroitin. The TA is the only thing that gives me some relief
