I could have sworn I wrote this last night but can't find it.
For those who know me and my trip with this disease I just wanted to tell you about my trip to the specialist 150 miles from here. You know I was ditched by my gastro doctor here and won't be going back to him. The new doctor says my old gastro doctor belongs to a practice that is just a business and not much caring for patients. I believe him. He would be happy for me to transfer closer by if necessary but for now I am going to my primary care doctor and sending test results to Albany, etc. I just couldn't get the new doctor to move closer to me LOL!
I am 69 and his assessment of my present condition is:
It is not necessary for me to be in full remission (I have some inflammation in rectum and up 30 cm. last scope). I know it is not worse. Some symptoms are better. I have 1 to 3 BM's in the morning - tiny bit of blood and mucous some days. Left-sided "discomfort" once in a while. Nothing I can't live with.
Dr. said to take Imodium up to 8 a day when needed, Pepto for nausea and Tylenol maximum doseage for pain. The withdrawal aches and pains from prednisone is the worse. He is hopefull that will get better. He commented that I should never have been on prednisone for so long - 5 months. - but I told him I could not get an answer from my old gastro doc - no one answered my calls.
The only only suggestion he has is fish oil (which I can't tolerate but hoping to find one I can). He also told me to try to stick with the IBS diet he gave me last time. I am trying!
I am to see him in 4 to 6 months unless I need to see him sooner.
I am so lucky and happy I have a mild case and he said as long as I do not get anemic - no problem with a little bleeding.
