Hi Kate 22,
I have had been diagnosed with colitis since 1995 but probably had it for years before that. I have never been on any of those meds that you stated. Aflter my last really bad flare in which everyone thought I was dying, I lost so much weight that I was anorexic, I couldn't eat anything solid and even liquids were difficult to take. I couldn't even take care of my kids for months I had to have them stay with family. Someone brought me probiotics and I started taking it 3 x a day and my symptoms started improving slowly. Now I never miss taking them for me it has helped alot. I also really watch what I eat and I make a point of making it to the gym every morning for at least an hour it really calms my stomach and my brain. I do take a lomotil before I go so I can get out of the house early but its more a mind thing. I still have many BM"s every morning but I think that it's my normal now but no blood or mucus and the urgency is not so bad at the moment. I don't know if that ever goes away either even in remission thats why the lomotil helps me, plus I find by taking it my rear end is less irrated from going so often and I seem to stay in remssion longer. The medications that I take are in my signature and have been using them for years. I have been given scripts for prednisone but I refuse to take it and I told my doctor that so he keeps me on the salofalk and he also encourages taking a good probiotic. So that is what I do.
