I feel a little strange asking this question but I have had flares before but this one that is lasting over 2 months and the worse one I have ever had,  I notice pain during intercourse which has not happened before. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

omg yes.
i am assuming you are a girl..... the vagina shares a very thin wall with the rectum and any inflammation of rectum as you get in UC makes it raw and tender and well, inflammed.
it is definitely a downer for the sex life!

Yes it can cause pain and discomfort. For me flaring also just makes me "mentally" not interested in intercourse sometimes - sure does not make me feel attractive when I have been running to the bathroom all day. I was in a flare for almost a year once - that took a lot of understanding from my husband!

Hi, this is my very first post! I registered just to thank you for starting this topic. I have been in a flare for 15+ months, and I have absolutely zero interest in the 'subject' due to constant cramping, MAJOR gas, and all the good stuff that comes along with U/C (specifically bad proctitis right now for me).

I was just thinking about this problem yesterday due to the dread of the situation I was facing (read between the lines). I've been married forever, but I can tell that my avoidance is getting old very quickly, but what are we supposed to do when we feel so 'crappy'?? It's embarrassing to worry about passing gas, etc. at inappropriate times. Not funny at all.

I'm soo-o-o-o glad I am not alone!

Rectal meds can do wonders for this issue (speaking from experiance of course)...my personal favorite is cortifoam (for those that don't know LOL).

Trying different positions can sometimes help a little until the meds have kicked in and it's no longer an issue.

yes i have had issues. some enough where it feels like i'm 'going' my hubby has been very understanding the last year and when we do the deed and i have gas we just laugh through it.

They might all hurt except for plain old missionary, but don't let him like, rest all his weight on you, that won't help! lol If he can hold himself up that's good, or spooning. Good luck! And there's always other ways to have fun.

Yes. I've noticed pain before (felt like someone was poking a bruise on my insides) that only appears when I am flaring.

yes i have pain as well....the best way for me is to lay on my left side and my hubby be behind me....

Yes. But not enough to not want sex, although having intercourse during flares would worsen the inflammation.

It can worsen the inflammation for some people but possibly not for all, I found even with having proctitis issues that it made sex quite uncomfortable (even doing it side-ways) but once the cortifoam kicked in then all was pretty much well again...who knows, maybe that's why I've never been able to retain full remission all these yrs, cuz for the most part hubby and I have stayed in as much "physical contact" as I could handle LOL!
