Hi. I‘m 19 yrs old and need to have the J Pouch surgery done soon for my Ulcerative Colitis and I need a surgeon around Pittsburgh PA. Can anyone recommend a good colon-rectal surgeon in Pittsburgh and the best hospital to go to? Or does anyone know a good free website that reviews the dr’s and hospitals? There seems to be a million websites and I don’t where to start. Thanks!

You should look into the Cleveland Clinic. It's one of the best hospitals for GI issues.

Also, jpouch.org has a long thread of CR surgeons.

Lots of folks on www.j-pouch.org have had surgery in the Penn area.  You should find some recommendations and I do think it's important to get a recommendation from someone who has a jpouch.

Bookworm, I have looked into Cleveland Clinic but unfortunately due to my insurance I need to stay in PA.

Where in Pa do you live? I am in the Pittsburgh area and I also always wanted to know this question. What Insurance do you have? I have UPMC and always wondered if they accepted this?

I'm from Pittsburgh and have and excellent GI doctor to recommend but no surgeon.  My Doctor's name is Howard Dubner and he works out of UPMC Shadyside Hospital.  I have had nothing but good experiences with him and his practice.  Don't know if this helps...
