The system here doesn't work. People get stuck in positions with no hopes of future retirement or advancement because companies have us cornered in a position where we need these benefits. If we are getting benefits through the state, I wonder if companies will start offering better retirement packages? Maybe we will see more pensions again? higher pay? They will have to offer incentive for people to work for them fulltime because we won't need to worry about
getting sick and not being able to pay hospital bills. Universal healthcare will
open doors for a lot of positive changes in this country. I think it will ultimately lead to a much higher quality of life.
Currently I see friends of mine making the same amount of money I was making in the 90s. Pay hasn't risen but a slice of pizza went from $1 to $3.50. A lot of my friends aren't getting dental coverage, no pension, no ira, majority do not have 401ks, nevermind 401ks that match. Even if you have a 401k, you're making such a small salary that you can't contribute much because you wouldn't have money to survive. This country has been moving in the wrong direction for a long time. I hope we see change soon.
Another problem is the education system. I have friends who are in their 30s and are still paying for college but only make minimum wage. Of course, they can't afford to go back to school when they already have so much debt...
This is what is going on in the world as I see it. I know many people don't see it or choose to ignore it but it is reality for my generation and the youth if things don't change.
