Hi all

I was wondering do you seem to get a flare during your period ? I have had to stop taking the pill so now my periods are alot heavier and my proctitus is really bad, blood, mucas and urgancy but with solid poop still (when my flare was really bad a few months ago i had diarrhoea all day long).

tazbum, yes, my periods affect my UC. It's not so bad now that the meds are working but before...whew...dreadful!

So, are you coming out of a flare and your period is setting you back a bit? If so, after my period I went back to where I was...coming out of the flare...it didn't get worse and stay worse.

Hormones can play havoc with women who have Uc. Heck they even upset a healthy person on occasion! I would always get "mini flares" with my periods. It got to the point that I was having such severe pain from both my Uc and from my periods that I opted to not have periods anymore via Endometrial Ablation. I no longer have periods and it has helped immensely in controlling my UC. My GI would have me use Rowasa (when I could tolerate them) during my period time to help me over the hump.

I have always had D the first two days of my period, even before I had UC. I take the pill now where I only get my period a few times a year. As soon as possible (probably next summer when I move back to the US), I plan to switch to Mirena IUD and hopefully stop having periods until I decide it's time to take it out and get pregnant.

Yes, I have worse symptoms during my period. It is hard when flaring because it seems just as my flare is getting better my period sets me back. Right now I am down to 10mg of pred and was doing well with that until my period this weekend...now I have bleeding from the flare again, I am hoping it will stop once my hormones settle down because I do not want to go back up to 20mg again!

thanks all for your replys I have it bad at the moment, i was doing ok after stopping the pred, but the past few days I cant fart without knowing about it !! Its not good.... I have 2 kids under 4 so im trying my best to get out the house but its a bit dodgy !

I wonder if I should think about going on the pill again but a more suitable one, the pill I was on (nuvaring) is said to make uc worse so I stopped it as my uc got really bad.

Red whats Endometrial Ablation. What do they do? does it stop you being able to have children too ?

The endometrial ablation is a procedure that the doc does. It burns off a layer of the uterus which prevents periods from forming or making them lighter. And yes, you can not have children after having this done. This was ideal for me since I am in my late 30's and done having kids.
