So what now?

They have finally decided that it's definately not Crohns, small bowel follow through was clear and had a colonoscopy last friday and the inflammation was confined to the rectum. The surgeon also saud that the abcess and fistula didn't look like Crohns.
So it's ulcerative proctitis, the scope I had in march showed it to be mild and the biopsies came back as severe. Since that I've been on the below treatments and am currently weaning off of my third short course of steroids in 6 months (only managed 3 weeks off them this time).
The scope on friday showed that the inflammation was mild again, so need to wait for the biopsies to see if there has been any improvement.
I need to wait about a month for a follow up with the GI, the problem is as I'm weaning off of the steroids the frequency and urgency is worsening, I don't seem to be able to manage these symptoms without high doses of steroids, they were mumbling about azathioprine but I wonder whether it is because the pentasa suppositories are not working.
I've been on a low residue diet for 3 months and reduced my dairy intake and it doesn't appear to have made any difference to the frequency.
She said after the scope that she was confident that it could be managed with the rectal meds that I'm on, but surely it should be doing the job by now?
I know I need to wait for the biopsy results, but it's frustrating when you know things are not right and you can feel symptoms returning. Should I phone them and ask about increasing the steroids back up until I see her again?
I realise that now all of the tests are done and the fistula is sorted and the news that it's not Crohns I should be relieved but physically I feel no different and desperately want to manage without the steroids.

Bless your heart and as I type this reply I pray the lord will touch your body with his healing touch.I too have U/C and have been fighting with it for 10 yrs.Three years ago God got my attention again and I blew out the disc at L4-5 after 2nd surgery now with fusion and chronic pain Dr told me I would be on disabiltiy and released me.I didn't give up found a pain management specialist and he got me off percocet and on MS Contin because anything else would flare up U/C.I only take 2-15mg tabs a day 12hrs apart please read on.I have not taken any of my former U/C meds since getting on pain meds from back injury I have had no signs or symptoms since being on MS Contin, next month it will be a year since going back to work 40hrs a week.I am maintenance man so my job can be demanding.I just recently joined this post because I strongly feel this info can help someone else minus the back problems.If I could go back and do it all over again I would have to say yes because I don't have to plan my in town trips around the nicer bathrooms and trust me the mens room out in public don't have a woman telling the men to raise and lower the seat.GI Doctors need us to have problems so they can pay for their new cars and trips.How many U/C postings have you seen that has showed this much success.I strongly feel this is God led.And I hope God will lead you to the same place.Best Wishes,48yr old male
