Hello everybody. I was formally diagnosed with UC (sigmoiditis) about
two and a half weeks ago. Since then, I have read this board profusley and learned lots of great information. You are a great bunch of people and the sharing of tips has been invaluable to me already.
Here is my question and story: I began having blood in Oct '07 with just about every bowel movement. This lasted for two years and all the doctor would tell me is that I had a fissure and an internal hemmroid.
Enter Sept '09. At night I start having what I'll call churning in my stomach. I would wake up, realize I had gas, but also immediatley realize that I could not get rid of it, or something else would come out. So, I would have to go to the bathroom and pass gas and a few of what I'll call "rabbit pellets" would come out. Please understand this was not diarrhea, something I cannot get the doctors to understand. The rumbling would last for almost exactly two hours, and I could fall asleep. This occurred about 50% of nights for a month and a half. These were my only symptoms: blood in stool, urgency, and late night churn/gas. No D and no pain at all, ever. My colonscopy showed severe signs of UC (he said the affected area looked like hamburger meat, but there was a clear line of demarcation where everything else was completley normal, which he said was a very good sign.)
I would have gas during the day and still have to go to the toilet before I felt comfortable letting go of it. My fiancee and I watched two 40 minute episodes of a show one night and I went to the bathroom 10 times with gas only.
At the end of October, I started Asacol HD (4.8g/d) and Entocort. I've since dropped Entocort from three to two pills/day. The first day after the meds, the bleeding was dramatically better (sometimes I would color the water a transparent red and would always have at least a little blood and droplets in the water.) Now all I have is blood on the TP and sometimes streaks on the stool itself. The churning got better for a week and a half and if I did wake up with gas, I just let it go and went back to sleep.
Long story short, my nightime gas has come back and I am not getting enough sleep. My stomach is churning and I feel like I can't let go of the gas while in the bed. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is?
Thanks for any help you can provide and for all the help I've already received from your old discussions. Hopefully I can become a learned UC'er and help someone as you guys have already helped me!
