I'm losing my mind.... just too many meds and supplements. The cost, the timing -- one hour before eating, two hours after... this one interferes with the other one so take them far apart
... I can't keep it all straight

I take a ton of stuff too and I am sick of trying to pop 20 pills each day. I am always giving new things a try and I find that most don't make a significant difference. I don't know how I get suckered into buying more pills each time I order probiotics. Last time I tried gse, cal/mag, boswellia... In the past I've gone way more crazy to the point of trying superfoods, slippery elm, black walnut, antioxidents, dha, flax seed oil, peppermint, ginger, folic acid, vitamin e, vitamin d, fiber, holy basil, yeast balance, bioperine, coconut oil, bitters compound, vitamin a, loads of probiotics... I've tried a lot more that I can't even remember right now. I am giving up on taking all this crap. Nothing has proven successful at all. I am going to just take my meds and hope for the best.

Also need advice on meds/supplements. I started Prednisone on Sunday - 4 pills for 5 days and now day 6-10 3 pills a day and so on. I also started psyllium seed husk poweder 1/2 tbsp for the past three nights. Finally, Lialda 4 pills once a day. My question is - what the hell happened? Last Friday night I had an accident because the urge was too strong to make it and this Friday my stomach is so blown up and I can't seem to go to the bathroom to save my life. WHAT THE . . . ?? I just can't seem to win. Is it the Pred? Is it the Psyllium? Anybody? Anybody. My stomach is so bloated I look like I'm 2 months preggers and I've never been pregnant in my life.
Argghhh . . .

For your pills you can always try using a pill organizer. I have a large one that has four compartments for each day. Then I used a permanant marker to write the time of day to take each pill.

Just to make it more confusing, are you taking the psyllium powder two hours before or after you take any medication? There is a warning on the metamucil wafer box and the generic psyllium seed husk pills I'm taking. I believe it is due to moving the medication too fast through your digestive tract.

Hey Ellen!
I can also relate to your suppliment regime.. argh.. mine is crazy right now.. Last time I went to my Holistic MD, she got me on this "Gut Healing Protocol" and I swear, I take like 30 pills a day.. (well, I'm supposed to).. I didn't even list those in my Signature because I'd be over my 10 line limit.. lol.. Plus the cost for it all was around 300 bucks.. for one month!!! Thank goodness it's only for a month.. But I sometimes only eat 2 times a day so I don't always get the 3 doses I'm supposed to get since you have to take them with food.. OH well.. I'm thinking once I get my second Remicade infusion overwith, I'm just going to rely on that and some probiotics... The other stuff makes me too stressed out to remember it all... lol... And like notsosicklygirl said.. I don't really notice improvement from the suppliments, the Remicade is what did it for me.. Plus it's hard to afford all the suppliments she wants me to take.. Sometimes it makes me feel like my head is spinning when I'm staring at like 15 bottles on my counter and thinking: I could use that room for some canisters or a toaster.. LOL....

Been there! At one point I was taking 25 pills a day, but now I'm taking the least meds I've been on in a long time ...mostly the supplements. You may want to talk to your GI about
trading in Asacol for Lialda. It's the same basic med but the delivery system lets you take four pills once a day instead of what, three pills three times a day?
I'm looking forward to getting my colon OUT and putting all these medications behind me. It's been a long time and they just aren't getting me all the way there anyway. I know I'd be a lot worse off without them, but I'm not feeling as well as I want to with them.

I think supplements are very important especially to us with GI disorders. Between the meds we're taking, which deplete nutrients from our system or lower immunity/bone density, etc., and the diseases themselves, we're already lacking in absorption and metabolization of these vitamins and minerals. I take a lot of pills daily and almost everything I drink is spiked with something to help boost my nutritional health.
I use one of those pill reminder/organizers. I feel like an old lady but it eliminates the bottles and bottles of pills I have to
open and look at each day. I take the supplements right after lunch and I take them all at once. I've gotten used to it...

I once even put a cloth soaked in warm castor oil on my stomach. What a messy procedure that was. It was recommended by a naturopathic physician. Just about
the only thing I haven't done is acupuncture.

I take medications for five things I have wrong with me. My question is there a group of medical professional that knows how each medicine you take affects the different med problems I have? I take 20 different medicine plus 5 vitamins and minerals. Since I started after the fact I have been told two of my meds are bad for other illnesses. I go to two Dr’s at one group and one other at another group.
What should I be doing? All the Dr’s know about
the other Dr’s I see.

Tomtmo65, you might want to post a new topic instead of bumping three year old threads.
