So I went to Mayo clinic this week for the first time. My appointment was Tues. morning. I guess the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas are their slowest - so I was able to get the same amount of testing done in 2 days that would normally take 3-5. It's a pretty amazing place. You see the doctors and basically get an itinerary of tests or other appts. I had a CT scan with contrast, a colonoscopy and and endoscopy.( I vomit a lot. ) The problem is, I was only able to finish half my prep for the colonoscopy. Seriously, I COULD NOT finish the rest. I drank the first half the night before and was supposed to finish the next morning, because the colonoscopy wasn't until afternoon, but I was supposed to drink water after finishing the prep and I spent the night throwing up after that. I threw up about 6 times. I'm worried that the results won't be as clear or accurate because I wasn't able to finish the prep. I am a small person if that makes any difference. Also I have a hemorrhoid which has developed a thrombosis and is extremely painful. (of course that had to pop up the day before I have to go in and have someone mess around down there) Anyone else have this happen? I guess I might have to see a surgeon because of it. I was supposed to get a phone call today with some results but didn't. So, I'm anxiously awaiting the results.

What kind of tests do they do besides the colonoscopy?
I bet you did OK with the prep. After half, I'm just pooing yellow water anyway.

LFTC....do you mean celiac? The initial treatment to deal with celiac is a very strict diet avoiding all gluten. I've read that eventually some can end up on Imuran or prednisone.

Is it Collagenous Sprue that your girlfriend was diagnosed with...it is connected with refractive (not responding to diet restrictions) celiac.

I sure hope your girlfriend is able to get things sorted out more quickly than later. Malabsorption is a serious result of what she has.

Micky3270 - I went to Mayo for a GI workup followed by surgery in Aug. It was an automatic 2nd opinion before surgery - BONUS! They did all my tests (it took 3 days for me), I met with the GI and surgeon at the end of day 3 and had surgery on day 4. I brought all my med records but forgot to bring my slides with me so I had to do the CT w/ contrast, a flex sig for biopsies, lots of blood tests (I'm hypercoagulative) and I think an MRI. I'd have to look at my records to be sure - it seems like there was more but that might be because of tests I had to do after surgery. I wouldn't worry about not finishing the prep. I'm pretty sure they would have said something if they couldn't flush you out enough following the scope. All I had to do as prep for my flex sig was 2 enemas and I didn't have to prep at all for surgery. :-) I didn't come close to finishing my prep for the CT and that wasn't a problem. Depending upon how bad you are they might not even have tried to go through a full scope. I know that my GI stopped on my last csope because of the state of my colon. He wasn't comfortable going any further. I think the Mayo doc did the same on my flex sig. They were concerned that it was just too dangerous to continue but they were still able to get all the info and biopsies that they needed.
