The best place to start learning is here (just read as many posts as you can) and on the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America website (www.ccfa.org). To some extent, there is jargon that you're just going to have to learn if you want to be informed about IBD! :) Were you diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's, or is is still up in the air? Just because you have UC/Crohn's doesn't mean you have to change your diet...you should keep a food journal if you notice that you have a lot of ups and downs. I personally haven't found that I have to eat any differently than before my diagnosis. I couldn't tolerate MSG or artificial sweetners before I was diagnosed, and I'm even more careful about avoiding them now. You shouldn't have pain...if you do, talk to your doctor and adjust your medications. As you have proctitis, I strongly suggest you talk to your doctor about rectal meds (enemas and suppositories). They are the best at treating inflammation that's low in the colon.
