Hemorrhoid thrombosis - burst - what should I do?

I would go ahead and call your GI's office today...if I call mine after hours/on a weekend, I get an answering service that then calls the GI who is on call (there are three in the practice). The GI then calls me, and I can ask my question. It'll at least help ease your mind so you'll know if you need to head to the ER or not. I hate going to the ER (nothing like waiting for hours in the germiest place on earth!), so avoid them at all costs.

I've had them burst before. I get blood with a stool, but it's not in the stool. Then the pressure and pain go away. I usually take a bath or long hot shower and count myself lucky that the pain is gone.

If it continues to bleed, you of course would call your doctor.

I had a thrombosed hemorrhoid burst about a month or so ago, and I never went to the doctor.  I'm loathe to go to the doctor, but any doctor should be able to excise and treat a thrombosed hemorrhoid; it's well within the scope of their practice.

 

I kept it clean and packed with gauze, and bleeding stopped and everything resolved itself just fine in about a week.  Nightly sitz baths helped.  Friends have told me the same thing.  (One friend was on a trans-Atlantic flight when his decided to go off.  Blech.)

My husband had one burst years ago and it cleared up himself but he told his doctor at next visit.  He was given Anusol suppositories for his hemmroids and it shrunk them!

I had two procedures to remove thrombossed hemorrhoids at the beginning of the year...one in the beginning of jan and one at the end. I tried everything to get rid of them and NOTHING helped. My GI had given me Analpram and that had no effect at all. He recommended me to a general surgeon and he made a couple small incisions and removed the clot. I was left with an empty "shell" of skin but that gradually shrunk and was no longer visible after two weeks or so. Unfortunately I developed another one after getting rid of the first one and had the same procedure done again and two weeks later, the loose skin shrunk back to nothing and I've had no problems since

     Gordon...you're lucky he numbed it for you.    Over thirty five years ago, when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter, I went to a colorectal surgeon for this problem.  I remember him having me drop my drawers, lean over some kind of post and BAM...cut that sucker right out.  I thought I would go to the MOON!  No anesthetic, nothing.  He then said to me..."OH, you're going to have to come back after you have the baby."  I just looked at him and left thinking..."Not to you I'm not..jerk."  That was back in January of 1977.  It wasn't until Sept of 1998 that I was diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis.  By that time he was long gone and I was treated by a GI doctor for the disease....who really wasn't much better..lol.

Mine popped on its own and I will give my 2 cents on other ppl's. fear! about 3 weeks ago i had felt an interior hemmy. Well, that became an exter. one in no time. Having it feel full and the size of a grape and at times a jelly bean. I was going to go see the doc. about a week ago, wanted to know it was not butt cancer. Not having insurance, I did everything I could to avoid, so I came to the internet and here. I bought witch hazel, prep H and pills that are cayenne/garic. I used all, but the prep H (it seem to irritate it more) I stopp'd after a couple of times. Well, this is going on 3-4 weeks now. But 1st, after the second week, I thought it was going down and possibly away. But late in the week, it started to fill up and get hard (and hurt at times). It seemed to be down in morning and full by night. It felt as it could "POP" anytime, but kept asking myself, where would it pop to? Seemed to be under the skin alittle farther than poppable access. Last night I finely applied ice right to it, before I did the other routine. This morning when I woke, my underwear was wet, IT POPPED finely. It popped from the inner side of the anus. It showed like a blood burger, which was the clot. I held steady, throught the scare, all because of these forums. I ready surgery is horrible, I heard that doc office needle draining is painful. I went natural and today, I am a happy camper. Keep your head up and stay positive. I am going to say 3-6 weeks to heal a "Major" hemmy and when you feel it full to the hurting rim, it is close to popping on its own. Once popped, your body will heal on its own.

Sitz baths are a life saver for my bottom.
I have two old ext hemmies just hanging around (hope they shrivel and re absorb at some point) and two newbies that i dont know of they are internal and came out or just external again.
Pain has been unreal with my recent tenesmus.

After each bowel movement I soak a cotton ball in witch hazel and clean the area real good. Usually 2 maybe a 3rd cotton ball.
this feels wonderful and is good for keeping bad stuff out of your "wound"

Once clean and dry, you may want to put a protective film on it... I use Calmoseptine (ask the pharmacist for it behind the counter.) I would think Vaseline would be protective as well.

Also; got lidocaine after my surgery consult w a colorectal surgeon. Thats been a life saver on occessions!

Didnt realize they could "pop" myself. So thank you for posting this and everyone for their responses!

Well I got my h about 5 days ago and on the 3rd day it popped.I've been cleaning it since with sitz bath and shower.I went to the doctor on the second day and he only gave percription for lidocaine and ibroprophen .well lidocaine really works when it comes to easing pain.but almost everyday it bleeds with clotty looking blood.should I wait a week more to see if it heals or go to the doc.

I must say this blog has really made my night. I am in week three as defhero describes. The only advice i can give you all is stay clean and NEVER SCRATCH THE ITCH NO MATTER WHAT. Grit your teath but never scratch. It aids in flaring. Definitely limit the amount of time you sit on the toilet. We all know it helps relieve the itch. "Dont do it Ms Ceily!" (Oprah voice) Seriously though, warm enemas are good but dont overuse them. It causes irritation. Once every other week is ok. Overuse also confuses regular bowel movement ever causes frequent sense of urination. Epison salt and warm sitz bathe also speed healing. They can be costly in the pharmacy but using a makeshift cussion works just as well. Your goal is to relax the muscles and reduce contraction. Lastly, during healing you can use light petroleum jelly to keep from increasing irritation while walking and use a tux to absorb excess moisture. (FYI...2ply is also a plus). Also dont use powder on hemo, i learned that the hard way. I also want to thank you all for the information about ulcerative colitis, i now know where this began. Once last tip to my fellow hemorrhoidians, stop stressing, eat right, and drink water limit lactose products.

I had a thrombosed burst hemmy. Had some before but not this bad.
I had it 5 days
Nothing worked so I used tumeric powder mixed with mustard oil ( coconut will do), it was amazing but tumeric stains yellow so be careful. All you do is mix it up 50/50 in fry pan until bubbles get on top then put in a bowel. Dab 1/1/2 teaspoon of the paste into a cotton wool bud. Then put on your bum for about 20 mins, repeat every 2 hours and in 2 days ( no crap) it will be half the size . Best is to take a compile days off work and be diligent. Mine shrunk and wasn't hard and then it burst when I was cleaning it. Was a bit messy so I took a sitz bath, well I sat in the basin and had a chuckle since I shave in it. Lolol. Anyhoo it stopped the pain that actually wasn't too bad , put some cream on ( preferably antiseptic but my
hemmy cream was fine. Not sure if it helps but my Aussie butt is a lot better

Just had a thrombosed external haemorrhoid burst. The pain before was excruciating. There may of been 2, but there appeared to be a small one on the side of the larger one. This morning, the smaller one burst. Lots of congealed blood as well as fresh blood. It's continued bleeding all day but it seems to be under control now. The larger haemorrhoid is still there but the pressure has reduced somewhat (which is a relief). I'm keeping it clean and I'm going to stay home tomorrow. So glad I came across this site otherwise I'd of freaked out!
