rectal meds while on Remicade

     For those of you suffering from ulcerative proctitis.......do you still take the rectal meds while on Remicade?  My doctor didn't mention it.  I was on cort enemas but when my symptoms subsided after my first infusion,  I stopped them.  I do inject a cort suppository every other night.

If there's no inflammation there, and the remi is controlling it, I probably wouldn't.

Usually not, but I do keep hydrocortisone suppositories around to use when the proctitis starts to show itself - mostly with antibiotics.

I had my 2nd infusion 2 weeks ago. I still do one Canasa every 24 hours. I haven't seen blood (knock on wood) for around a solid week now but I still have a small amount of mucous. After the Canasa my BMs seem better formed. My doc told me to stick with the Canasa until I am asymptomatic and then stop. I have felt the best that I have in the last 7 months after starting Remicade. Still waiting for the perfect poop, but life is so much better! 3rd infusion in 2 weeks................

I would say that if you're not in remission after the 3rd infusion, then start rectal meds. That's what I had to do...it took me 5 infusions and almost 4 months of rectal meds to reach remission.
