Tylenol (Acetaminophen) surprises...

Ok, so I have been taking Tylenol or generic for many years for arthritis, etc. because I can't take NSAIDS or narcotics. It works pretty good for me. When they came out with Arthritis - extended use - Tylenol I bought that to take at night when I go to bed, etc - stronger and lasts longer! No problems.
This week I bought the new 8-hour Tylenol for minor muscle aches and pains. I had a coupon and I surely have the muscle aches since prednisone.

Well, when taking it out of the box, I was reading the ingredients as it is a layered tablet. Guess what - it has sucralose in it. Now I imagine there is not much but I take it 3 times a day and I don't like using any artificial sweeteners except Truvia (Stevia). Boy, reading the labels you sure learn - even at my "advanced" age - lol!

It's amazing what all meds have sweetners in them!

I know you use Pepto Bismol sometimes...do you know it has an artificial sweetner in it? Unless you get the pills. The liquid and the chewable tablets both have it.

Apriso also has a tiny bit of aspartame in it. When I questioned Salix about it, they said that making the pills slightly sweet made them easier for people to swallow since it's such a big pill. I have never noticed any sweetness, but I'm a pill-swallowing champ and it's not in my mouth very long at all! So I bet that's why the 8 hour Tylenol has it.

Yeah if people have a pill in their mouth that long they have problems. One time I took some Meijer tylenol that had a "cooling sensation". It tasted sweet and I think it had that stuff that the Ice Kool Kool-Ade has. Of course it was only in my mouth long enough to see if it really had a "sensation" lol.

Also, stevia's yummy, I grew some. You should try agave nectar, it's natural and super sweet so you only need a bit. I even put it on my cereal. And it's awesome on strawberries.

Yes, I know pepto bismal has sweeteners. I love the taste! I have taken it for nausea and IBS for many years. I never take it anymore unless I absolutely cannot handle the nausea and stomachache! It also has aspirin. I ask all three doctors and they said to use in moderation!

I don't think there is much sweeteners in pills and supplements, at least there is not enough to bother me, and I'm very sensitive to them.

Of course, some people may be even more sensitive to them than me. So I guess it is something to pay attention to.

I just checked my tylenol arthritis and it doesn't seem to have sugar. Tylenol has so many different kinds of caplets, tablets, capsules, etc.... SO confusing.

Reading your original post, Elaine, I found myself thinking that too many pharmaceutical folks grew up taking Mary Poppins too seriously,,,, "just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down....."

Actually, I checked the Tylenol website and did not find any formula with sugar - just some have artificial sweetners (sucralose) and one had castor oil. YUCK!

It is worth it to read all labels - most of that stuff is for taste when in your mouth or to hold the tablets/etc. together.

I think the sweetener would be in the coating.
