So I've had UC for almost a year and a half now. I've been on tons of meds. and nothing seemed to work and was hospitalized once. Over the summer, as a last resort from doctor, was put on 6-MP and prednisone. Helped most out of all other meds but I still had flares and was going 3-4 times daily still with blood and pain. So I got sick of it and slowly got off of prednisone, when I did and nothing changed. I then slowly went off of 6-MP. Nothing changed. 2 weeks go by and I notice that my appetite was coming back, I'm gaining weight, and now no diarrhea and I only go once a day with no pain or blood. I haven't told my doctor any of this but anyways, I completely ecstatic and happy. I'm in remission right? I can eat whatever and nothing happens! Coffee, sour gummy worms, nuts, salsa, oranges, whatever... nothing happens. I'm starting to think my meds were what was making me sick, maybe worsening my UC? Anyone know if that sounds right....? I'm afraid that if I tell my doctor this (because he made such a big deal when I asked to come off pred. and 6-MP, he even told me if 6-MP didn't work that I should get my colon taken out!) that he might make me go back on it or go on something else and then my UC get bad again. I've been like this for, uh, maybe around 1 or 2 months now. I seem stable. So what do you guys think I should do?

are you on any 5 asa drug? If it were me, no symptoms means remission....so, no need to talk to the dr. that's just me though. It is your body and your life.

This is what is so confusing about
UC. Not one person is exactly alike. What works for one can be devastating for another. If you are feeling better, could be the meds were bothering you. I saw a GI surgeon last year after I was discharged from the hospital and still ill. He was against removing my colon and explained that sometimes UC can "burn itself out". Well, it hasn't burned itself out in my case. Since last year I have suffered two major flares. My GI doctor took me off the 6MP and now I am on Remicade and weaning off the prednisone. I feel better than I have in months and hope Remicade is the miracle drug for me like it is for a lot of others.
Good luck to you and I hope you continue to feel well.
