So for a while I thought I was getting better, that my flare was finally deciding to go away. I started tapering off prednisone (am down to 10 mg now) and have gone off all other medications. I've been watching what I eat, haven't always been successful, but I am only human. but ever since I started tapering off pred it seems to have gotten worse. I'm having more 'stomach attacks' (no one on seems to really know what I'm talking about) but it's extreme abdominal pain that lasts for about a half hour to an hour, more bm during the day, more urgency, lots and lots of gas, and pain while having a bm, and more bloody stools along with more mucous.

I'm scared, starting at the beginning of the year I'm switching insurance plans. I'm going part-time at work and they only offer a max plan. I have a very small alloted amount for dr visits and don't want to use that up if i don't need it.

what can i do to be healthy enough to stay away from drs offices and/or hospitals?

First, how is little Miss Gummy Bean?

Second, why did you go off all the other meds? So you're not on Lialda anymore? Also, have you thought about trying enemas? I realize it might be hard to use them while you're caring for a newborn, due to having to be up at night, making it harder to hold an enema, but the benefit they can provide might be worth the hassle. FWIW, I can get up and move around if it's been an hour or so since I put it in.

Are you using any type of probiotic? That seems to quell my stomach pains when I get them; the best for me is GoodBelly liquid; found in the refrigerated section by the yogurts. You might want to consider probiotics; there are several forms including pill and liquid.

But obviously you need to go back to what was working before. There are very few shortcuts with this beast...BTW, it appears I am having a minor flare myself now and have started Hydrocort enemas..They usually stop my symptoms pretty quick...Best of luck..

thanks everyone!

Miss Gummy is doing quite well except for her colic that seems to give her grief :( I can't believe she's 2 months old now!

I started going off my meds with approval from my GI, we wanted to see how I did w/o them and just trying diet. I've been eating yogurt like crazy. He really wants me on remicade, but we won't be able to afford it at all with the new insurance plan. :(
