I saw the posts, and was wondering. How bad is ketchup on Ulcerative colitis?

I put ketchup on grilled chicken with whole wheat bread, a healthy conbination for my ulcerative colitis, however I wonder if its really bad?

I've noticed BBQ, chips, popcorn give me flare ups, but i've never noticed ketchup; I just want to know tho if any has had any experiences with ketchup or serious signs?

Hi, welcome to Hw :) Nope, I have never had any issue with ketchup. For some though, it may be too acidic so they don't use it. You just need to remember that food is so very indivualistic when it comes to Uc. What one can eat another can't. So if you have no symptoms with ketchup then you most probably don't have any issues with it.

I haven't noticed any problems with ketchup. But I agree that it's a good idea to not overdo some of these sauces as they can be acidic, and often are just a mixture of artificial flavorings, additives, preservatives.

No foods make me go into a flare.  Some are harder to digest once I am in a flare (raw veggies mainly).  Everyone seems to be different though.  For me flares just happen sometimes regardless of what I eat or do not eat.

food wouldn't cause your flare.....Id say that you're flaring already if you're having any issues.

Welcome to the forum.....where in the colon is your UC..limited or throughout?
and what meds are you on at this time?

I'm on Mesaline, and Asacol. I've had UC since I was 14, it was a pretty bad case till I was 17. I had it in mild control..I have relapsed because of lack of knowledge of food. I'm 20 now, and I have better knowledge on how to manage my condition.

As Quincy stated food won't cause a flare, but can make symptoms worse if you are already flaring. Call your GI and see if he wants to adjust your meds.....
