anyone feel better eating this activia yogurt. im not on any meds. have no insurance and im looking for something to feel better.

I get lots of gas from yogurt, and there's no way you'll get enough probiotic from activia to help in a meaningful way.

I do, however, suggest you purchase a good probiotic.

If activia doesn't bother you causing any discomfort, then eat it....but also take probiotics.

I take my probiotics at night before bed.

you should change your signature to say you're off meds but have used what you've got listed, etc. Saves us asking LOTS of questions..lol.

Any yogurt - even store brands - with active cultures are same as Activa.  Try some.  They give me gas also so I stopped them when I went on Align.

Activia and others may help "normal" people with some mild irregularities, but for people with UC, we need more. I agree with the others-finding a good probiotic is the way to go. I have had to try a bunch of them to find ones that work well for me-Align is a good place to start, especially is your symptoms are mild. I have also tried Digestive Advantage, Flora Q and MegaFlora Plus and now am on VSL#3.

Just a note on Align and Digestive advantage.  Directions say it may take a while to "work".  Took me about 3 weeks of Align and then it was great.  They included a journal to keep track of my symptoms, etc.  But - I have IBS so WHAT I eat has more effect than on some people and Align, etc. helps a lot!

Elaine-interesting that it took you 3 weeks with the Align. I gave it two and was still in so much pain from the gas, I gave up-the GI said it should have subsided by then. The Digestive Advantage I took for a few months, but it just never did much for me one way or the other.

Maybe I should have given Align more time-I know it is the first one my GI recommends to IBDers.

During my initial appt. with my GI (the one I ended up firing) he said "Some people feel that Activia helps. I tried it and found no difference from the store brand except for price.

It won't worsen UC.....one may have lactose symptoms and discomfort, separate issues. Sometimes easy to confuse the two.

     Activia never had any effect on me one way or the other.  I can tell you what did make me feel better though and that is baked salmon.  It is gut friendly.  When flaring I ate it three times a week with a baked sweet potato and cooked carrots.

Everytime someone mentions salmon I get so HUNGRY for it.  I used to eat it on special occasions, etc. and then after UC it makes me very sick.  I tried it twice after I got sick to find out - YUP!!  DARN!  Someday I just might try it again!  Now baked potatoes work - any kind and very cooked carrots!

     I am doing very well, thanks Elaine.  I go for my third infusion of Remicade tomorrow morning and we are expecting lousy weather....sleet..ugh.  That is odd that the salmon makes you sick.  I still eat it at least once a week.  Happy New Year!

Activia won't help your UC...probiotics would do something if you got enough live active cultures in; something greater that 200 billion bacteria per day, the probiotic should be kept refrigerated
Activia might help someone without UC be able to eat certain foods without passing gas or having a less than perfect stool.

Maybe you should say it would not help many.  I don't know about activa so much but Align does not have all that bacteria and you don't refrigerate it but it works great for me.  Stopped my diarrhea (which I had had for months) in about 3 weeks - gradually but saw a difference in a few days!  It is advertised as a "different" type of probiotic... The difference with me is that it does not give me gas as every other kind of tried did - especially added fiber and Philips!

Probably works so good for us who only have mild to moderate UC and IBS!
