Couldn't take another day in bed and the bathroom. Been off work and going down hill fast since Dec 20th and my doctor is away. I was looking at my pill bottle of Prednisone and caved. I took 60mg tonight and will take 40 tomorrow and stay on it until I can get my Humira problem taken care of.


I just needed to tell somebody who understands. I could really cry putting those dreaded pills in my mouth. Been on and of them for a year. Just finished taking them in Oct and just lost my moonface.

Gosh, I'm so sorry, I really understand. It's like, every time I flare, I need to get to a point when I really, really admit it's bad enough "something" has to be done..... and each time it's difficult.

How long is your doctor away? (Not too much longer, I hope!) Is your understanding with him/her that you will take the pred when you deem it absolutely necessary?

I hope it turns things around for you!

Can you see another doctor? Or can you call your doctor? Or go to emergency if your situation is really not good? If neither works, then you may have to see what you can do. I think this forum has a lot of posts about supplements. For me, have a warm shower, keep abdonimal area warm, have food of less solid help a bit. Also, try to sleep more.

You did the right thing- if you've been on pred before & know the dosing/tapering deal, go for it. I did the same exact thing before my most recent infusion- was feeling awful about 3 weeks prior to infusion date, so I just divvied up my old pred scrip & did a short, fast taper in about 7 days. It worked pretty well- got me thru to the next infusion, which lasted about 2 weeks again! Now, I'm just waiting to get the letter from my insurer notifying me of approval for Humira, with the ordering instructions. My GI just got the fax yesterday- the approval went thru on 12/22, & they just got the fax yesterday?!?!?! On 12/29?!?!?! Then, I have to call the Humira people & set up a nurse to come to my home to show me how to use the stuff! Lot's of hoops to jump thru with this one- it better be worth it! Does your GI have anyone covering for them? They must, you could always call the covering doc & just let them know what you're doing, get their feedback. Good luck- hope it helps!
