I was diagnosed with pancolitis in October, 2007. I was started on Remicade in December, 2007 after other attempts of getting me into remission failed. I have been in remission since starting Remicade but seem to be developing antibodies to the drug as well as a host of side effects (severe muscle aches, fatigue and bursitis). I also have followed the specific carbohydrate diet for a year and a half by which I attribute some of my good health and sustained remission. My GI and I are planning to stop the Remicade and begin Lialda. I will be on Lialda approximately 6 weeks before doing my last Remicade infusion. Has anyone had experience with dropping down from one of the higher immune modulators after achieving remission in exchange for "lower" level of treatment such as a mesalamine preparation?
Much obliged.
