Anyone Try the New Phillips probiotics i see on TV. so much?

I keep seeing on the TV. that Phillips makes a probiotic now has anyone heard or tried it yet it seems cheap and easy to take was thinking about trying it. I don't think it is heavy duty like for a full UC flare but a maitnence thing maybe? Just thowing it out there was wondering.

What's the potency of this probiotic? I looked at 5 websites and they didn't advertise how many bacteria per pill you get.


This is my standard answer with probiotics...

vsl#3 is the most affordable probiotic I've been able to find:

450 billion bacteria per packet; each packet cost at most $3. So it costs $0.07 for 10 billion bacteria in packet form.

Compare that to Culturelle sold at Target (i just picked this as an example): 10 billion bacteria per capsule; 30 capsules costs $18.59. So it costs $0.62 for 10 billion Culturelle bacteria in pill form

Vsl#3 pills have 225 billion bacteria per pill. 60 pills cost $48.50. So it costs $0.36 for 10 billion vsl #3 bacteria in pill form

Plus: VSL is freeze dried, has 8 strains, and shipped and stored cold to assure the bacteria remain alive

Now I get VSL#3DS mail order. With my copay I end up paying $0.008 for 10 billion vsl bacteria

you could split the packets up or buy the pills, either way vsl is cheaper


I keep hoping someone finds a cheaper one...

I’ve researched (limited) the enteric coating and, from what I’ve read, it's unnecessary.

I believe the "Phillips Colon Health" only has one billion probiotics in it.

So one "Phillips" equals 45 VSL packets.......? whooooooo.

I talked some with my GI about probiotics the other day and he said that it seems to him that not only a good number of bacteria per dose matters but to also have a number of different kinds of strains.
Gosh, I keep feeling that some day we're going to know so much more about this....

I believe one VSL packet = 450 Phillips doses

My sister swears by the VSL, she also has UC and told me she will skip a dose or two to save money and gets spots of blood.

My UC is different than hers. She never goes into complete remission and hers is not near as bad as mine.

Anyway, I tried VSL during my last flare but didn't take the doses they reccomended in order to save money.

This time I am taking 3 VSL#3DS packets per day and am getting better but I am also taking 150 mg Imuran plus Remicade. i' m at least tapering down from prednisone but am stil at 55mg.

So is it helping...who knows...I'm also under less stress at work (and taking valium plus oxycodon for pain which also is helping with pain stress). There are too many things I'm taking to say VSL is helping.

The real test is going to be this...Like all the other times I go into remmission and hopefully I will again. My plan is to stop the remicade as I did before because I was getting better (acutally finally reduced bleeding) 3 days before my infusion two weeks ago. I've since had another infusion. Anyway, if I go back in remission I will continue to take VSL#3DS and then, if I can remain in remission, I will believe VSL#3 helps significantly. I'll also be able to tell, in remission, if my stool gets healthy when I take more or less...I assume there will be days I forget to take it and maybe I'll notice a change then.

Sorry, I can't tell if VSL is helping. I'm just on too many drugs.
