Someone (Old Hat, Rio, or quincy, maybe???) has posted a link in the past to a chart that compares the different types of mesalamine.  It has stuff about what portion of the colon they treat, etc.  I'd like to add it to the sticky thread, so if you know what I'm talking about, please post the link!

On Mesalamine.. I've been taking even though I'm on Remicade wanting to keep inflammation low ( also have gazzilion pills left ). When I told this to the GI yesterday he advised there has been significant research indicating it helps prevent colon cancer and advised I continue with x2 1.2g Mezevant tablet per day indefinitely. Apparently, having pancolitis I'm 30 times more likely to develop cancerous lesions. Oh joy.

I just switched from Asacol to Lialda because the co-pay for Asacol is now 60. and 35. for Lialda, plus my GI gave me a card from Liada that allows me to pay no more then 10. per month co-pay for the year (with insurance). I am scheduled to lose my job in May and will also be on cobra. My doctor always say "Mesalamine is Mesalamine, there is not much difference between the two". He always stocks me up with free samples, for which I am grateful! Hopefully some cheaper generics will come about in the future. Maybe you can change to a cheaper version.

The 5-ASA chart I cited is in Dr. Ellen Scherl's clinical review (Part 1) on 5-ASA Responders/Non-Responders that appears on gastroendonews.com -- p. 5 of the article, as I recall. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal-- because the Watson generic made me sick)
