How did your UC like the new baby?

Hi there! I need advise form the girls who had the baby already. I'm 37 weeks pregnant, and I was wandering what to expect from my UC after I have the baby. I had it through out whole my pregnancy, and even more… for almost 3 years I had NO remission. However, it's very mild and I never had D. So, will it make me feel worst? What about you experience with this?

I had my first real flare after my daughter was born. My UC got BAD about 6 weeks after giving birth - I mean BAD. I waited too long to go to the doctor because I was so focused on being a new mom and it just got terrible...so I would tell you that as soon as you have any symptoms after giving birth let your doctor know. I am pregnant again and this time I am planning to treat and my UC aggressively after the baby is born. You will need all the energy you can with a new little one and don't need to be even more drained due to UC.

I have been conteplating on becoming pregnant but kind of afraid because I am flaring with my UC.   Right now, I have the watery diarhea and bloody stool which scares me and it would really scare me if i was pregnant.  Tell me about your journey of pregnancy with UC starting from week 1 of knowing your where prego up until now.

UCISNOT MYFRIEND, I'm beeding like hell almost whole 3rd trimester. Also scared, byt my OBGYN checks my blood often if I animic or not. Thanks God, mt blood work is good. So, the first think after the birth I will go for colonoskopy, just to calm myself down... really scared, but trying not to think aboit it. :-)) God bless us all!

With my first I don't remember anything changing, I stayed in remission during the pregnancy and after delivery. With my 2nd I had to take antibiotics shortly after delivery and that caused me to go into a flare. I think I would have been fine if it weren't for the antibiotics.

I was in remission my whole pregnancy it was awesome!
but shortly after coming home i started getting worse. Actually the day i came home i had some icecream, hadnt had it since i found out earlier in my pregnancy it was bad for the baby, but it didnt bother me then, and i forgot i didnt have those hormones to keep me in check anymore. And i got really sick from that. I had some on and off times,but by the time my son was 9 months i was pretty bad, right after he turned one i was in the hosptial,and right before he turned two i had my ileo (YAY!) so basically i never got out of a flare once i had him.

My UC was worse while pregnant but I got better after and went into remission for a long time.

I actually got my first symtoms of UC when I was 4-5 months pregnant with my third child.  I thought maybe it was the milk or because I was pregnant.  Nothing horrible until after my daughter came.  Even then I thought maybe it was what I was eating.  I had my daughter June 2008 and I got really bad I started have accidents in my pants and couldn't hold it.  Constant D.  I never have blood though.  I finally went to the doctor in Feb, 2009 and he thought I had IBS.  Did a colonoscopy in March 2009 and I had severe UC through out my whole colon.  I get mad at myself.  I should have went to the doctor sooner.  The only way I got out of that flare was pred and then I'm on just remi now.  I thank God I had my kids before I got UC.  I feel very sorry for women like you who have to deal with UC while pregnant.  My flare was HORRIBLE.  I was going to the bathroom about 20 times a day. I was thinking of having one more kid but I just don't think I can handle that.  I think pregnancy affects UC greatly with all the hormones.  I'm so sorry you have to go through this.  The child is so worth it though.  Good Luck.  Hopefully you will be just fine.turn

good post... its good to know this stuff as im 24 weeks preggers right now and flaring bad. went into flare at 9 weeks. and have been ever since. ggrrrr!

i go to the toilet all day and night on top of constipation. very weird to have both urgency and constipation. very uncomfortable.
lots of bleeding and mucous and D as well as cramping.

i hope that this goes away before i give birth and can be in remission when bubby is here.
but from posts above, its not looking good :-(

I would also add that for me, getting enough sleep really impacts my health since getting UC. The constant sleep deprivation just killed me and likely brought on a flare. Don't try to be supermom. Take a nap over cleaning the house. Unless you're exclusively breastfeeding, get your husband or someone to take some night shifts.

UCISNOTMYFRIEND - When we decided to have another child I was very worried about being pregnant with UC. I consulted with both my GI and my OB/GYN and both thought it would be safe. I got into remission after a five month flare by going back on pred. I made sure I was in remission before trying to get pregnant. I had only been in remission about a month when I get pregnant. I stayed in remission for the first five weeks without any medications (I stopped them when I started trying on the BAD advice of my GI but that is another story). I started to flare at five weeks and it was an instant flare - no slow onset of symptoms just sudden watery diarrhea, bleeding and urgency so I started taking Lialda and Canasa again. Now at 7 weeks I am still in a flare but it is minor and pretty controlled due to the Lialda. I feel pretty good other than the normal first trimester stuff. It has been a rough few weeks though and is harder being pregnant with UC. Of course it is also harder this time because I have a 3.5 yr old to take care of as well. I thank God for my husband's support everyday! I think it is manageable and will be totally worth it in the end. Hope that helps!

THATFIELD,

 

Even though I have UC and I am in a flare--I know it will be worth it in the end.  My fear is that UC would make me infertile...my main thing is that I need to think positive, let nature take its course and it will happen.

I started with my flare about 22 weeks pregnant and was hospitalized for 2 weeks...started on prednisone and continued on it through out the remainder of my pregnancy. i had my son at 38 weeks and he was 8 lb 3 oz. I felt great!!! 3 weeks after delivery i flared again and ended up back in the hospital. I am now on remicade and feeling really good. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

I did not experience any fertility problems - in fact we expected it to take several months and got pg the first month. It took us about five months to get pregnant with my daughter and that was before I was diagnosed with UC. It is probably different for everyone though. Best of Luck!

Yah the flinstones work. I took 2 a day when i was pregnant because i couldn't get down the prenatals. I have been taking them forever.
