Do stomach bugs make you bleed more.

  I had what I pray is a stomach bug and not worsening UC last night. I had the most miserable 4 hours with intense cramps and nausea that hit me out of nowhere. I had the worst D it was mostly clear until it turned bloody towards the end. Finally about 3 or 4 hours later the nausea and cramps went way down but I kept up with the bloody D until this morning. No more blood now but still some D. I am praying I got the bug going around since everything but the D has stopped. I am just kinda tender now. Have any of you had experiances like this?

 Everything but the the d and some blood is gone now. That was no fun but at least it was only a few hours of nausea and cramps. I can eat again too without my stomach turning.

I think that when UCers get GI bugs, it can take us a bit longer to get back to normal after it. And yes, I think a regular tummy bug can cause us to bleed, especially if we haven't been in remission that long and the colon is still a bit fragile. If I were you, I'd hit the probiotics like crazy and take it easy with food (low fiber, etc) for a few days and see how it goes. Since it came on so suddenly, it definitely sounds like a tummy bug.

I had a bad stomach bug two years ago, lost 8 pounds overnight!! It was miserable.

Something like that would always irritate the UC.
I stay far away from anyone (especially kids) who I hear have been sick with stomach problems.

I had the same thing earlier in the week, & when it was all over, the endless D, cramps, nausea, etc. I was left with bright red blood in the toilet bowl, over & over for about 4-6 hours. It lessened, the blood, but I've been passing pink mucous ever since. Finally this AM, I had my first actual bm since Monday! No blood!!!! Well, a little... I haven't seen that much blood since I was in the midst of a really bad falre, a few years back- it totally freaked me out. But, I seem to be on the mend. GI bugs really do a number on those of us with UC.
