Hey everyone, I just wanted to share some information that was given to me by a natural health consultant that my parents pointed me to. I sent him an email explaining my health situation and what I'm currently taking as far as natural supplements. He sent back some suggestions and changes to what I'm doing and just wanted to share in case something you see might be new or haven't heard of. First off the supplements I'm currently taking are as follows:
VSL#3 Powder (started yesterday)
Natures Way Peppermint Leaves: 400mg/day
Only Natural Olive Leaf Extract: 700mg/day
Norwegian Gold Daily Omega: 1200mg/day
Solaray Boswellia: 1200mg/day
Sundown Vitamin B6: 100mg/day
Vitamin Shoppe Pancreatin: 350/mg
Vitamin Shoppe Dry A: 10,000 IU/day
Solgar Lecithin: 1360mg/day
I also asked him his thoughts on Psyllium Fiber, Tumeric, Aloe Vera and Coconut Oil.
He replied that what I'm taking would be good for a mild case of UC but not with what I'm currently going through. He started by saying I need to get nutrients in that could start to repair my intestinal walls.
His first suggestion for this was Renew Life IntestiNew has a blend of L-Glutamine and other nutrients to help with this and soothe the delicate tissue. Take 1 scoop in water AM and repeat in the PM.
His suggestion regarding the peppermint supplement I'm taking was: The Peppermint leaf product was a good idea however I need to use a concentrated form and enteric coating to deliver it into the intestines where it needs to go. Natural Factors Peppermint & Oregano Oil Complex: start with 1- 20 minutes before lunch, repeat before dinner. After two weeks add one before breakfast.
For the Psyllium Fiber, he recommended not to use Psyllium, its too harsh for your type of colitis. Take Fiber Smart 1 scoop at bedtime. This contains gentle fibers to cleanse without the harshness. It has an ingredient to fuel the friendly bacteria also
For the VSL3 - The VSL #3 looks like a great product. Please let me know if it makes a difference for you. Do not take the VSL #3 near the Enteric Coated Peppermint Oil Complex or the Zyflamend I mention below.
For Pancreatin: I would use a multi purpose enzyme that contains pancreatin. This way the food leaving the stomach is easier to absorb and eliminate. Take Enzymatic Therapy Mega Zymes 1 right before breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you eat a large meal or high protein meal, take 2.
Olive Leaf: told me to stop that for now. The Oregano in the Peppermint Oil Complex will do similar things
Norwegian Gold Fish Oil: Great! Take 1 after breakfast repeat after dinner.
The Boswellia, B6, Lecithin, Dry A are fine for now
If I'm having bleeding from the Colitis take 1 Vit. K daily. If not don't bother
Turmeric: I recommend a herbal based anti-inflammatory called Zyflamend. This contains a blend of Turmeric, Ginger and others. You can take 1 during each meal. Great to help keep you off steroids.
Aloe: Can be helpful. Consider taking 1 oz. of Stomach Formula mornings and evenings. This blend has a 200x concentrate of Aloe along with additional nutrients to calm the intestines
Coconut Oil: Consider adding this later. Lets try the protocol I've listed first and add this later if needed
He had also said to try a glutin free diet for 4 weeks and see if that helps in any way. I've never really had any issues regarding what I ate...nothing that I've found made things worse or better.
Thats pretty much what he shared with me and maybe something listed might be new and worth a try for you. I plan on adjusting to his suggestions and give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks for reading and hopefully something listed will help some of you.
