Anybody doing anything special with their significant other for valentines day? It's in about
a week and a half.
Me and the boy are doing a multicourse meal...soup, appetizer, main course and dessert. Though we haven't quite figured out the main course and dessert yet. We're both really good cooks so I've looking forward to it.
Anybody else have something fun planned?

Um, wrangling our 16 month old? Ha!
Honestly, I have no idea. Maybe since it's on Sunday I'll see if DH wants to go out for brunch, with our son coming along, of course. I suppose we could look into getting a sitter and go out just the two of us, but we actually prefer to go out with him. Since we both work full-time, we're pretty protective of our weekend and evenings!
The idea of cooking something different is neat, too, but might be challenging with the kiddo underfoot. If I'm in the kitchen, he's pretty much in there, even if DH tries to entertain him in the living room. He likes to watch what I'm doing.

My boyfriend and I are far to broke to do anything fun. I think we'll probably grab something little to eat and then so see that Valentine's Day movie because I get in for free. The only way I'm getting him to see it is because Jessica Alba's in it. Figures lol

My boyfriend and I are currently living 10,000 miles away (I'm in the UK and he's in Australia) so I'll have to cook my own romantic meal for one and indulge in a few chocolates as I think about
everyone else being romantic!

fruitgirl-Maybe try to find something simple, but tasty if you're gonna cook? Less prep time means less time nearly tripping over the youngin.
Callalily-I'm broke too, that's why we're spending the night in and cooking. =D It helps that we share a netflix account, too. Also what movie is this you speak of?
zetlandgirl-mmmm, chocolate! Best part of valentines day I swear.

Oh, I still cook! Pretty much just every other night, because we're leftover lovers. :) I do try to vary what we eat, though so my son doesn't become a pick eater. I made ham and bean soup over the weekend with cornbread, and I'm still in shock over how many beans my kiddo ate. Well, and cornbread, too. I'm sure his daycare providers LOVED me for the diapers that created!

Haha, I grew up on leftovers myself, and in college I did the 'make a batch of soup and eat it for a week' food plan. Though, my parents never ate beans or anything...a lot of the stuff I ate growing up was really processed and unhealthy as my parents would only buy what was on sale and didn't eat much of a variety of veggies.
Heh...bean diapers. Gross.

Malkavian that's cute, but my boyfriend can just now make Pasta Roni and hot dogs (not together of course). He once was hungry at home. His mom was two miles away at a friend's house. He ran there to get her to come home to make food. He is somewhat helpless XD But I love him lol. Mostly when I'm cooking he just puts things away for me and hugs while I'm stirring.
The movie? I think she's talking about
... I actually think it's called Valentine's Day?
But yeah... dunno what we're doing. I plan on getting a gift and that's all I know. Maybe see a movie but I feel like it might be crowded. We'll think of something.

Yeah it's actually called Valentines Day. It's got a huge ensemble cast. Julia Roberts, Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Taylor Swift, Taylor Launter, Jennifer Graner, and a bunch of others. I think it's kind of like Love Actually where they follow couples and what they're doing on and around Valentines Day.

Me and the hubby are going out on the 13th to a Valentines day dance at a local biker's hall with a bunch of friends. On Sunday, I'm not sure what we are doing - maybe taking the kids out to dinner or something.

elephantpipe...that's kinda sad and actually a little pathetic, lol. How is he EVER gonna feed himself. Cooking is one of those things everyone really, really needs to know how to do.
Red-My plans are for saturday as well...that sounds like fun though.
lambkins-I hope you have fun! Sadly most of my favorite restaurants are in my college town so that's a bit far away.

Cooking at home......crab legs, pan-seared scallops, baked potatoes, wine, and the hot tub. Oh yah, my husband too!

My husband and I are going to our favourite restaurant for dinner. We do this every year - I am big on traditions! We have to book our reservation shortly after New Years, the place books up fast. I cannot wait. Then we come home and watch some corny romantic movie. Lately we don't have dessert at the restaurant, because I'm full right after dinner. Instead we buy something at a bakery ahead of time and eat it later in the evening.
The only thing I'm a little nervous about
is I plan to drink wine with dinner. The old colon does not like wine, but usually a glass or two after a long absence is ok. I had a bit too much wine on vacation early in January and had bad pains and diarrhea for two days. If I were smart I'd skip it... but heck I'm going to call it an experiment and go for it. :)

Yeah, that's why when he's hungry at my house I usually have him make his own food, and I steer him right when he starts screwing up lol.
Mmm, crab legs.... mmm wine. Man, I had this awesome strawberry wine and it didn't bother me at ALL. Not even the tiniest bit, and with the amount I drank it should've done at least a little something.

fuzypants...that sounds awesome, i think my mouth is watering.
ack-must be one helluva restaurant! I'm usually full after dinner as well...that's what dessert to go was made for!
elephantpipe-sounds kinda like my dad...I do NOT trust that man in a kitchen unless he's closely supervised.

JLL, because it's joyful! I don't ever have any specific plan, but I love to watch other people be happy, isn't that what life is all about
, JLL?

We're pretty low-key about
V-day. We'll probably go out to eat, then come home and watch a movie in front of the fireplace.
I remember when I was young and between guys, I always thought "bah, humbug" about
Valentines, but I tried to appreciate the fact that others enjoyed it.

Sure you don't need to wait for Valentines day to show your love for someone you care about
; it should be done year round but there is an actual historical significance to Valentine's day. It's just not a "Hallmark" holiday.
