Hemmie removal, questions!

I just went through a month of HELL with hemorrhoids. I got one before christmas and was extremely painful and became thrombosed which means it became severely clotted with blood. My GI sent me to a general surgeon and he did a quick out patient procedure where he numbed it, made a small incision (about a cm) and squeezed out the blood clot. First off regarding the procedure that I went through, it hurt...alot. I got an injection directly into the hemorrhoid itself...it's only the first couple injections that hurt for then you go numb. The procedure did kind of freak me out as I felt sick, started to sweat and almost passed out and he described the condition as vasovagl which happens in situations like that. Now, did it help...hell yes...BUT the pain the same day after the numbness wore off was terrible...just constant painful throbbing that even the pain killers did not get rid of. The next day was 80% better pain wise. Now when he removes the blood clot, I was left with an "empty hemorrhoid". I still had the lump of skin the size of the hemorrhoid but after about a week or two, it gradually retracts back to normal. As soon as my first one was gone I had a second hit me that was twice the size and required 3 incisions to remove the blood clots and again went through the same exact recovery. They are now both gone...both were thrombosed.

My GI and CR docs advised against hemmie removal with UC especially if
it's been active recently. I know these things can be torture however and there are some newer less painful procedures but please get your GIs blessings

I wouldn't wish hemorrhoids on my worst enemy after what I went through...by far the most painful experience for me yet. My last one kept me out of work for two weeks because I could not sit and the endless throbbing was relentless. I researched every possible home remedy I could find but no luck with anything. My GI did prescribe Analpram which is a hydrocortizone / steroid cream that could be used internal as well as external to try and shrink them but by that point they were so swollen and bleeding it did not make a difference. All I can suggest is do your research about that specific procedure and gather as much info on what to expect. Again my procedure was absolutely horrible but the next day I was so relieved.

I had one removed on November 4 in an outpatient procedure along with some other suspicious growths (turned out to be pre-malignant due to chronic inflammation related to UC).  The surgeon pretty much sliced and diced from what I can tell.  And he did a lot of cauterization.  The pain after the freezing came out was HELL!!  I didn't sleep at all that night as my rectum was in horrible spasms.  My GP prescribed lorazapam the next day to help me calm down (narcotics not recommended due to risk of constipation).  I originally had four days off of work to recover but ended up being off of work for an extra week (dr's orders).  It felt like I was passing a whole set of broken dishes every time I had a bm.  I was doing sitz bathes up to four times a day (that's the only time it didn't hurt) and then I ended up in a very bad flare.  Back on prednisone on December 8, and as of today, there is still a small triangle wound down there that bleeds, sometimes a lot.  I am having to hand wash a lot of panties to get the blood stains out.  I had a colonoscopy today and my GI didn't seem too worried about it not being healed completely yet......Seriously?  It's been three months!  Maybe the prednisone slowed the healing process......  If banding will work for you, that is what I would suggest.  I will NEVER do that surgery again.......

My GI suggested another GI in my practice to do the banding. He did not recommend surgery.

I am so scared and from the sounds of it, i should be...lol
