friends and family don't understand uc

I seem to have a pretty hopeless family too who totally don’t get the privacy thing either or get this disease itself . I guess empathy becomes more difficult when no one else in the family shares this condition. Over time I have figured out my own way of dealing with my family and now am no longer bothered because I stopped sharing with them when I eventually realized it was not helping me.

When you wrote about your son’s anger issues what first comes to mind is the disease itself. For me, Normally how reactive I am is a pretty good gauge of what is going on in my gut too. Sort of like an alert that things are starting to go wrong. So perhaps something to consider is if his meds are working for him? He definitely needs his own private support group and there are several on fb or even this one . Also encourage him to take up some sport or mindfulness activity .

Part of it is the name. “Colitis”…everyone’s heard of it. No one knows exactly what it is. It sounds like something that’s temporary, kind of like having braces.

A couple of people I’ve told and their eyes lit up. “My daughter has that.” or “My brother has that.” It’s kind of like an unspoken kinship. “You mean there’s actually others?”
