You are probably like me and have ulcerative proctitis. My pain is only in the rectum but it can make you feel miserable.
It sounds to me like you are eating an excellent diet (wish I could say the same for myself..lol). I do eat very little red meat though. I love candy and sometimes indulge a bit too much. Do you eat salmon? I find salmon is extremely gut friendly and while flaring I try to eat it at least two to three times a week. I bake it in my broilier over.
It sounds like you are flaring. The white mucus is the first thing I notice when beginning a flare. I have urgency and that is very uncomfortable. At my age 63 and having to wear kotex pads again..ugh.
I am, nor have ever been on Lialda. I asked my GI doctor about it and he says it is very similar to Asacol which did not work for me in the past. Since my problem, and yours I believe, is mainly in the rectum, my doctor prefers I take Colazal. I take the generic form...Balsalazide...not sure of the spelling. This drug breaks down further in the colon and treats the rectum better than the Asacol.
I am doing the rectal meds, but not having much luck with them. I don't know how far along you are with your pregnancy but maybe that is why the doctor has not suggested rectal meds for you at this time. Good luck and God bless.
