After over a year of abstaining from coffee and soda, I decided to try them since I have had few flare-ups. The good news is that neither one really upset the UC. however, while I may splurge every so often on a cup of coffee now (boy did I miss the taste), I will not go back to drinking sodas. After a year of no coca colas and dr. peppers, they both taste like crap now ... strange how that happens! I have been missing that leisurely cup of coffee on the weekends. I am still being careful though and having a snack before I drink my coffee ... just in case!

who needs soda when one has coffee??? lol.
when you have coffee, what kind do you have?
I have coffee, even when flaring, but would lessen my intake. My butt reaction pretty much rules that aspect.
Of course, it would react the same as when I eat, but I don't want the experience of coffee to be negative for me. I don't drink all coffee, and defninitely none that smell like Starbuck's..lol.

Well I'm sure glad that you've eliminated soft drinks, check out the latest study regarding soft-drinks and pancreatic cancer...

I like the flavored coffees and creamers (I am not brand loyal but go for medium and light roasts) ... when flaring, I would drink just a few sips of coffee and end up running to the bathroom ... it just wasn't worth it. I will say that I got some gurgling going on when I drank the coffee but no sense of urgency or loose bm's ... it's nice to have coffee back!

LOL, don't be scared wolverine, it basically says that soda drinker were at a very high risk of developing pancreatic cancer compared to those that don't drink soda (aprox 87% higher risk) and for those that smoked as well as drank sodas, the risk went up to aprox 95%...it's actually a really good read, you should check it out.
When hubby heard about
it on the news yesterday he told me not to buy him anymore coke...like I haven't tried telling him for yrs how unhealthy it was cuz it has sooo much sugar in it...I was warning him about
it long before I decided to alter my own diet (I was never a big pop drinker, maybe once/month if that), but he hears it on the news and then he decides not to drink it anymore...men!

I agree, coffee owns soda.
Hmm, pb4, do you think that might have something to do with the excess sugar intake, rather than soda specifically? The pancreas DOES control insulin production...

Yes Malkavian, I do, pop has tons of sugar in it, that's why I think they mentioned "some fruit juices" as well, I never buy juices that have anything added to them, I buy "Simply Orange" and pineapple juice made by "Presidents Choice".
That was quite a long-time study they did though eh, I thought it was a good read, scared my hubby enough to stop drinking his coke and he's been a pop-addict for yrs.

Hah, I actually hate regular soda and rarely drink anything non-diet anymore. Wonder if that's any safer?
Oh well, coffee and tea are clearly superior anyway.
