Flare up & Stopping Birth Control pills

Does anybody know if there is a link between stopping birth control pills and then getting a flare up (of Ulcerative Colitis) at your 1st menstral cycle?  Because that is what happened and I can't help but think they are linked.

(I have not had a flare up in almost 10 years previous to this week)

yes there is, sometimes being on the pill can help keep uc under control, its because it regulates the horomones or something like that. they explained it to me, but thats been like 7 years ago so its hard to remember exactly,lol.

I think the pill contributes to my symptoms. I know when I began the pill I began having imbalances in my system and it caused me to get an overgrowth of yeast, this is something I never dealt with before taking BCPs. I have read that it is common. I wish I had never screwed with my hormones but I was such a pimple face, that was difficult to deal with as well.

I think it's different for different women. Some do better on the pill and some do worse. I've been on the pill since before I was diagnosed, but when I was younger, before I started the pill, I pretty much always had a day or so of diarrhea (not bad, but it was definitely there) at the start of my peroid. When I started the pill, that all went away. It sort of came back when I was off it before/during trying to conceive, but not as bad as before.

Thanks. My GI doctor said that we can't really say whether it is acting up because of it being the time of my period and just coming off of the pill, but that it COULD be related. Like a lot of you have said, he said that a lot of women have issues with their bowels before/during their period anyway. I have a call into my OBGYN to see what he says and to see if I should go back on BC until right before we are ready to try and have a baby...we will see what he says.
