Us vs CAD meds

Here in Canada I have only heard of Salofalk, Pentasa and Asacol for 5asa

what is colazal? lialda? apriso?

I have been on salofalk for 3 years not sure how well it works for me but i have had a few flares that were nasty on it and ended up on pred..should i ask to try another 5asa?

what is the difference between all of them?

Lialda is a somewhat newer drug. It is a slow release oral mesalamine that you only have to take once a day. The max dosage is four pills so it is also less pills to take than some of the other oral mesalamine type drugs. It is designed to only release the drug directly into the colon. I have been on it for almost three years now... I have never been on another oral mesalamine so I cannot compare the results but overall it has been very helpful for me. Not sure why they would not have it in Canada though...

I thought Mezavant was only in the UK...must check that out however.


OK, checked it out...It is in Canada the same as Lialda, but called Mezavant XL in other countries other than US.

First, Mesavant is and Lialda are the same thing.  Why the drug companies feel the need to give the same medicines different names is beyond me.

That is so flipping weird! I'm pretty sure I've looked at the US Lialda website, and haven't needed any sort of number. Wonder why you have to for Mezavant?
