Thrombosed internal hemmroids

      I was examined by one of my GI doctor's associates today prior to my Remicade infusion.  He wanted to make sure I had no infection.  Since I have such severe pain in the rectum he was unable to go into the rectum, but he did look on the outside of the rectum to make sure there was no pus or anything that looked like an infection.  It was ok.  I had the Remicade infusion.  I have very bad veins and half way through the infusion the vein gave out.  OK...the poor nurse had to stick me five times before finally finding a vein in my hand.  UGH! 

     My last colonoscopy in May of 08 stated I had several internal hemrroids.  I was just reading about thrombosed internal hemrroids and be darned if my symptoms don't match the description. Now why wouldn't my GI doctor pick up on this???  Should I ask him to refer me to a colorectal surgeon?  This is sooooo upsetting.

     Just my luck it is the weekend coming up.  Well, if I have as much pain as I had this morning, I will be off to the ER.  I read where thrombosed hemorrhoids must be taken care of pronto!  I just cannot understand why my GI doctor wouldn't pick up on this. Guess he is just so focused on the UP.  The GI doctor I saw today too...why wouldn't he mention it.  Guess they aren't protruding out the rectum or he would have seen them.

     In the meantime, what could I do to help?  Sitz baths with Witch Hazel?  Any rectal meds or will they make it worse?

I looked at a couple of sites and two different ones said internal hemorrhoids are painless while the external ones are painful. This does not seem to match what you describe as far as the pain. Can you call the doctor who is "on call"? I guess if you are really concerned and in a lot of pain you could go to the ER. Hope you feel better soon.

     Thank you for the replies.  I had very little sleep last night due to the pressure inside the rectum .   I had one bowel movement this morning, but not much of one as I ate very little yesterday.  There was quite a bit of mucus and some blood, but the pain was less severe than yesterday.   Soooo, keeping my fingers crossed that things will improve over the weekend.  I remember after my 1st Remi infusion that I didn't have any results until about two to three days afterwards.  I still have pressure and still believe this is from the internal hemorrhoids.  Going to try taking sitz baths with witch hazel.
