food/diet, birth control pills, toothpaste, anitbiotics, hormones ect and other environmental issues would not be the "cause" researchers already know this, but all those things can be triggers, which is different from "cause"...the "cause" is a faulty immune system, different from triggers with IBD the trigger(s) have to be set in order for the disease to appear....for those that are predisposed to getting it. Each person's trigger(s) likely vary as well, researchers also know this. The cure would be to repair the immune system so it functions properly, gets the right signals and doesn't over-react to harmless bacteria in our system, which is exactly what the disease is. This is why stem cell therapy would likely work, regardless of what each person's trigger(s) are/is...fix the immune system, IBD is gone, but for how long or if permanantly, who knows.
