Stopped my multi-vitamin four days ago. My condition is improving. Related or not?

     I have been taking Centrum Silver for Women for quite some time.  When I bleed, I take the vitamin with Iron.  I have two first cousins who suffer allergic reactions from multivitamins.  Since I do eat very healthy, I decided to stop the vitamins for a while to see if it made any difference.  Actually, I was thinking more in the way of vitality.  However, yesterday and today I noticed a big improvement in my ulcerative proctitis.  I don't have the severe urgency and my stools are more formed.  Just wondering if this is just a coincidence.

Hmm, I would have to say maybe.. I have ALWAYS had trouble with multi-vitamins, even as a child. They have always given me diarrhea and stomach upset. When I was a small child my mother used to give me those chewable vitamins and I got so sick on them that my doctor told her to stop. I don't know if they would be related to bleeding unless they were causing some of the diarrhea which could really irritate your already sensitive rectal tissue and cause it to bleed more.

It could be the iron. I read somewhere that for some people taking a multi with iron during a flare doesn't work out well.

It might be coincidence or it might be the vitamin.  Centrum have that heavy coat, similar to asacol, and I didn't want to put any more stress on my colon, so I switched to gummy adult vitamins.  You might consider giving that a try. 

I also take iron as a separate pill (also a hard coated thing), Slow FE, which for sure I think is irritating but since I tend toward anemic, it's catch 22.  If you took it separately like that, you might be able to just take it a day or two and not have it irritating every day.
