Proctofoam

Believe it or not, I've never used this before, despite having UC for nine years. Now antibiotics have almost killed me, and I'm using it. Does anyone else get slight rectal burning and cramping right after application?

Yes, I do have hemmies, but I think this is higher than that. It only lasts for a few seconds, but I never get that effect from suppositories. Maybe it's the propellant in the foam.

Finally off the Cipro, took my Diflucan after-pill and hoping this abx-induced flare goes quickly.

I used the foam for 2 weeks and it made my butt bleed too, it was awful and it really hurt, I had the worst part of the ulcers in my rectum though and it was soooo painful, i would sit with my bum hanging over the bath apply vasaline and insert it .. that wasnt the worst bit though it was pushing the button !!!! Id have to count myself in!! Sooo sore Id never do it again !!

In my experience Proctofoam burns low-down, where the (short) applicator reaches. It felt like a super-strong witch hazel (astringent) type of sensation. Cortifoam is less likely to cause any such discomfort, but maybe your doc doesn't want to put you on 10% steroid for some reason. Sorry that you're suffering bad effects from the blasted antibiotics; I hope your problem will be short-lived! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

We never stop learning Judy. Heck I've had it 18 years and I still get suprised on occasion by what my body does! lol

Quincy, I just have to tell you my GI was astonished when I requested rectal meds. She said she is accustomed to having people refuse them. I told her about the wise woman who showed me how effective they can be. :)

You know - I picture "Q" that way also - funny, huh?
