Hi mdf34 :)
I am answering your question here so you'd be more likely to see that I responded :)
The pill cam is a diagnostic tool to see the insides of your small intestines. Before they do that, they have to make sure you don't have any small bowel obstructions, which is probably why they want a CT scan. A better test in MY opinion for checking that is a barium swallow, also called a Small Bowel Follow Through.. It's not a fun test, but the stuff you drink is kinda like thin pancake batter and tastes well.. not that great, but you can get it down.. It didn't make me nausaus at all and I just held my nose everytime I had to take a gulp, till I got down about 24 ounces. Then they take X-Rays about every 15 minutes until the barium reaches the ileum and starts into the colon.
My test took about 2 hours before I was able to get outta there.. Once they determine you don't have any blockages or obstructions, maybe they will approve you for the pill cam at that point? I'd ask your GI about it.
Hope this helps :)
