Flex sig without anesthesia?

I just saw a new GI who I like alot. I've been having ongoing rectal irritation that doesn't seem to resolve with Canasa and Cortifoam, so she wants to have a look-see. I'm scheduled for a flex sig on Friday. She asked if I wanted anesthesia or not. Has anyone here had one done without? How uncomfortable is it?

I had a flex sig without any sedation, and it was fine. Sure, the procedure was uncomfortable, and it did hurt a little bit, but it was certainly manageable. It was nice to avoid the side effects of sedation, and I appreciated being able to be awake and see what was going on, and ask questions throughout.

To be honest, the prep for the flex sig was waaaay worse than the actual procedure (I could barely gag down the laxative meds). That said, my UC was moderate at the time, so it might have been more painful if I was in a more serious flare.

I have had most of mine without any sedation, since my current GI does all without. Generally speaking, it is uncomfortable but not too bad. This last one I had was during a major flare though, and it was almost unbearable. But when I have had them in remission or during minor flares, it isn't bad-and it is nice not to have to have a ride or deal with being sleepy all day.

For me, it is all about how badly inflamed I am at the time. Good thing is they are over pretty quick (unless they are doing biopsies also).

I'm not inflamed except for this one small area of inflammation. I'm supposed to do the Fleet enema - which I'm guessing is the saline one. Can't be as bad as the full laxative c-scope prep!?!
