Pain Killers to work on the colon?

My doctor gave me a prescription for Vicodin to try and help ease some of my pain but after trying it for a couple of days I find the pain relief it is giving me to be not very good and the constipation to be more annoying than the pain I was trying to mask. I tried a little fiber to counter act the constipation and that caused gas. So, I'm stopping the vicodin and the fiber. I had quite a bad day yesterday!

Anyhoo, what other pain killers have people had success with for relieving colon pain. It really flares up a few times a day and I just want something to take maybe once a day to get a little reprieve so that I can feel OK to do things like play with my toddler or, heaven forbid, have sex sometime this year. /blush. Suggestions?

Oh and the pain is kind of stabby, it's not cramps. Cramps usually turn up around BM time and subside within an hour so I'm not taking anything for those because again I find the slow down from Immodium more annoying than just riding that out.

You might try Levsin or its big brother Levbid.  Ask your GI.

I find the my bentyl helps, usually pretty quickly.  So far I have only taken it when going to bed as I am afraid of the side effects and dealing with those.  But, I still deal with the pain and cramp when I get up/pill wears off.  This week anyway.  It's like once the pain and cramping start, the longer you try to wait the worse it gets.?
