Really struggling at the minute Hives?

I am really having a hard time at the minute with my flare up. I was in hospital two weeks ago on IV steroids. A scope confirmed I was having a flare up. To cut a long story short they increase my mercaptupurine to 75mg from 50mg and put me on a reducing dose of prednisone. I have constant pain and Buscopan was not touching it so the told me to take Merbentyl instead.

On Saturday morning I woke up covered head to toe in a rash (see picture)

I went to a doctor's walk in centre by this time the rash had dissapeared and I felt ok so was sent home. By Saturday evening I felt ill  and slept for several hours which is not like me. I woke up covered in the rash again.

Sunday morning I had the rash and Sunday night I had the rash. It comes and goes but when It is there it is really itchy. I have bought some allergy relief tablets to ease the itching.

I am clueless where and why it keeps appearing. Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't know if it is due to medication or not? I have not changed my diet or washing powder etc.

I get a similiar rash but not as raised as yours on occasion. One time it even happened when I went it to see the doc for a viral infection and she had no idea what it was. She said it could be from the virus but I've had this rash off and on without being sick. She did make mention that it could be from my 6mp which can cause rashes. When I get mine, they're not really itchy but they feel intensely hot. I am as clueless as you on the coming and going of these rashes...maybe you can show the picture of them to your GI to see what he says?

Thanks red_34 I have e-mailed her a few pictures as I can't get to see her. Hopefully she may have some idea.

It is so annoying hopefully it won't appear tonight. I will keep my fingers crossed.

It's been a week now and still have the same rash. The nurse did a blood test on Thursday but as it is Easter I won't be able to get any results until next Tuesday. I am taking piriton at the moment but it is still really itching and raised.

I am wondering if it is due to the 6MP or Stress?

Wow....what blood tests did the doc do for you?

Are you taking any supplements that you recently added?

Have you been taking the merbentyl daily? stop it and see if your hives improve.
Hives and rash are side effects of that med.

After suffering for nearly 2 weeks with various symptoms I decided to go and see the doctor.

I have severe sinus pain a fever and ringing in my ears. The hives have calmed down but I am waking up soaking wet through.

The doctor said I have sinusitis and an ear infection. She thinks I have had a virus and it has turned into this.

I finally have an answer and antibiotics so hopefully will be getting better in the next few days.

I break out in hives occasionally too. I haven't had it happen in awhile though - thankfully. I was allergy tested and saw a dermatologist after my regular doctor couldn't figure out what the problem was. (no one really did figure out what was causing them) I took a medication called Xyzal that helped keep them under control.

Good that you checked in again with the doctor. I hope the new Rx gets rid of your recurring rash. While on hydrocortisone for UC in early 1990s, I developed a dreadful, itchy body rash that turned out to be a staph infection, which, of course, required a strong antibiotic treatment. Take good care of yourself & possibly include something probiotic in your daily diet to avoid wiping out beneficial gut bacteria ... a bad thing for IBDers. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Thanks for your replies.

Finally this evening have started to gradually feel better. I will finish the next 34 days of antibiotics.
