Remicade cost?

doc wants me on remicade, but im worried about the cost...i have good insurance but i have heard that even with good insurance it can be really expensive.....what does everyone else pay, if you don't mind me asking

Mine is more-I have a $300 initial co-pay, then I have to pay 10% of each infusion until I reach my deductible, which is $2000/year. After that it is fully covered. However, I enrolled in the Remistart program, and they cover a lot of it. I signed up for it, but since I have only had 2 infusions and have not been billed yet for any, I haven't dealt with the actual payment aspect. Apparently, I will get a debit card from the Remistart program to use at the GI to pay the bill. They will cover $250 of the initial $300 co pay, then they will cover $550 of each $600 after that until my deducible is reached, so it is a huge benefit!!! I think the program fills up-they told me to apply and see if they were still accepting, which they were (as of a few weeks ago).

I am not sure also with my insurance if the deductible is for everything or if there is a seperate one for medications, but I was in the hospital recently too, so that will have met the deductible if they both fall under the same category! We'll see-we haven't gotten the bills yet.

Oh, the Remistart program only covers medication costs-not any additional costs with the infusion centers or anything like that. So, I have a $30 co pay at my GI's office for the infusions (they have an infusion center there, and my GI co pay is $30), so I have to pay for that regardless.

Hi,  It's been a while since I posted.  My son has colitis, and he was able to get his

Remicade free through PAP.  He has his own small business, and can not buy insurance due to his preexisting condition  (colitis)  and he makes less then $42,000 a year, so he qualifies.   Thank God for this PAP.  He does pay the infusion center though, and it is about $100. or so.  He takes no other meds at all, just a Forvia vitamin, and he's been in remission since he started, and feels wonderful now. 

If this new health bill kicks in soon he will have to buy insurance somehow, and probably have to pay out more money.  We shall see I guess.  Good luck to you.

There is a big difference in the actual billing costs of the Remi-at the U of C, the charge was 14k for the same dose as in the suburbs where the charge was $5600. Even if the 20% is what you have to pay, it counts. Infusion centers are more reasonable, and the Remistart program is a godsend.
We have a 10k Deductible, and then only 80/20 paid till near 17k, so it is a big sacrifice, but worth it to keep the colon for now
. I am grateful for the drop in pre-existing conditions in the health care reform, as the thought of an uninsurable daughter is frighting. We have met our out of pocket max. for 4 years now, and could have paid for her college instead... only the insured get Remicade.
