Sometimes in the middle of the night I'll be woken from my sleep with a strong feeling of nausea, almost as though I'm certain I'l throw up. I run to the toilet, never actually do vomit, then I'll suddenly feel the need for a bm (but no cramps - it doesn't really feel urgent like it usually would). After that I start to feel better and can go back to bed usually after a glass of water and a few minutes.
Does anyone else experience this? Just wondering whether I'm alone with this symptom or not. My theory is that my UC is predominantly right-sided (GI never told me) and rolling over and remaining on that side while sleeping causes problems.

Hi jc :)
Yes, I get the same feeling lately... but not in the middle of the night.. I get nausea and feel very ill before a poopie right now... In fact, I was in the shower last night and thought I'd have to jump out and puke in the toilet all soaking wet... UGH... but by the time I got out of the shower, I felt better and then poo'd and was ok... I think it's when the poopie goes through the inflammed area that it makes us feel sick...maybe? If that makes sense to you... I sure don't like it though... but now I know when I get nausea, I need to start thinking about
getting to the bathroom to poo... So.. you are definately not alone :)

I wake up nearly every morning early with waves of nausea - not really feel like throwing up! After BM and toast I feel fine in that way - seems it was a lot worse when really flaring!

I can't see UC being predominantly on the right side. However, in relation to the nausea, it's probably peristalsis and inflammation.
The other thing is it might possibily be reflux.
What meds are you on and when do you take them?
Do you have anything else going on with your liver or gallbladder, etc?
You could ask the doc for an antispasmodic to take before bedtime plus an antinausea such as Gravol or Dramamine.
What do you eat at supper usually....do you eat before bedtime or snack after supper. Not saying that it's good or not, I find food soothes my nausea.
