Hello, I was diagnosed with UC in 2004. Back then I was put on 6 pills of Pentasa a day and the doctor told me that I would have to take them for 5 years. They worked great I was in remission and then I went for my extership and stop taking them in 2006.
In 2008 I had a flare up, I called my gastroenterologist and found out he had retired. The doctor who took over his practice isn't even a GI doctor and he wouldn't take me as a patient because it had been a few years since I've been to my previous doctor and all the old files are with the old doctor storaged in some storage unit. The receptionist said they weren't taking any new patients and that there was a waiting list. I asked to be put on the waiting list and two years later they still haven't called me. The city I live in currently has no GI doctor. So, in 2008 when I got the flare up and the new doctor wouldn't see me I went to a walk-in clinic and I got them to prescribe me the dosage of Pentasa that my old GI doctor had put me on. To my surprise Pentasa had gone up in price quite substantially. I used to be able to get a month's prescription for $140-$182ish. Now it would cost me over $420 for a months prescription. I was able to afford the meds for a couple of months and thankfully my flare up disappered.
Now, a year and a half since my last flare up I'm having another one and can't afford the meds. I don't have any insurance, I can't get insurance, and I don't qualify for any sort a goverment assistance. Do you guys have any ideas on what I can do?
